Re: Funimation doesn't "own" Dragon Ball, right?

Going by the quizzer's logic, If Toei owns the "Japanese version" and FUNimation owns the "American version", then who owns the Latin American version, Brazilian version, Spanish version, Portuguese version, Italian version, German version, etc? By his own logic, there has to be ...

Re: Buying the Mexican dub of Dragon ball

Unfortunately you can't really buy a home release of the Latin American dub. I mean you could , but it is not complete and the quality of the home releases are not very good. They're also hard to find unless you live in Mexico, Chile or know someone online that sells them. Basically this is all that...

I don't think these are exclusive Nozawa sounds. Are they? I know that the angry kkkkkkk sound is done by other characters too. At least I think they do.

Re: But seriously, how did the Falcouner soundtrack even make it to air?

It's very rare that I hear that a child will drop a show because of the music. From what I can tell, kids barely notice it. Most everyone I grew up with in school who watched DBZ barely remember the music when I ask them about it. I didn't even remember it until about a decade ago when I decided to...

Re: How do you define a good dub?

Are name changes for pokemon anymore valid/official than the name alterations in DBZ(Tien, Korin, Shenron) or 4kids Piece(Zolo, Chaser, Trace)? That's a really good question. First, they certainly are official as they were used in official dubs. I really don't know much about Pokemon, but a...

Re: How do you define a good dub?

Having faithful translated scripts should be a top priority when dubbing a foreign product. It isn't a dub's job to create a new show. It shouldn't replace music, change characters personalities, change characters names , change/add/remove dialogue, etc. A dub is basically a very expensive translat...

Re: Are your non-Kanzenshuu friends into Dragon Ball?

My best friend was a dragon ball nerd like me. But unfortunately he moved several states from me when we graduated high school and I haven't seen him since. I really miss him. :( Most of the people my age grew up watching dbz. But to them it is just a cool cartoon they saw as kids back in the early ...

Re: How do you define a good dub?

I'm probably in a minority because I place faithfulness to the original script quite low on the priority list compared to other things. The way I see it, it's never been easier to access subtitled versions of shows, whereas dub have become a premium product. So I can get faithfulness for free, but ...

Re: But seriously, how did the Falcouner soundtrack even make it to air?

I swear, at this point half the time I'm almost expecting someone here to eventually say "I remember when I first got internet in 2009* (almost nobody anywhere had it before then) and I first discovered what these things called cars were. Like holy shit! Can you imagine? We'd NEVER know about ...

Re: What was your first experience with the Japanese version and what was your first impression?

The first time I heard the Japanese voices was back in 2008 when I bought Budokai Tenkaichi 2. I decided to switch the audio to Japanese just to see how it sounded. I don't remember my exact reaction but I do remember being surprised with how high pitched Goku was. He sounded like a little kid. I on...

Re: How do you primarily spend your time Dragon Ball wise?

Do people really just watch random episodes? When I rewatch I just rewatch all the episodes in order. I can understand watching a specific ep you really liked a lot of times, but it's hard for me to just randomly select a random ep to watch when all the episodes continue from each other during a sa...

Watching the series. Mostly dbz since it's always on tv. Other than that I occasionally watch one or two dragon ball related videos on YouTube.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

His Coola is definitely different even though it's obviously the same actor. Coola's voice is deeper than Freeza and looses that androgynous speech pattern that makes Freeza more posh sounding. I always thought Andrew Chandler's coola was a bright spot for old Funi dubs, he's definitely more popula...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

What do people here think of Ryusei Nakao as Cooler? Did you think it was a great performance or would you have preferred another actor? While I think another actor could have worked well, Nakao did great in the part IMO. He did a good job. I love Nakao's Freeza but I dunno, his Coola just sounds l...

Re: Is the in-house FUNi dub of dbz a good dub?

I consider it to be a bad dub because of the unfitting score, Goku's characterization, the atrocious scripts and bad voice acting. If you want a good Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z, watch their Kai dub. That's when I finally started to like Schemmel as Goku and Sabat as Vegeta and Piccolo. Because...

Is the in-house FUNi dub of dbz a good dub?

I've never watched any of the FUNimation dubs of Dragon Ball besides a few clips on YouTube. However I did grow up playing dbz games in English (because there hasn't been not even one game dubbed in Latin American Spanish. Not one). So I am used to the English cast. Well only the main cast like Sean...

LOL "literally", huh? As someone who has these consoles sitting right next to me while being a huge fan of them and have listened to their music on a daily basis, you are giving their hardware specs too much credit. I know sub fans love hating on the Faulconer OST, but this takes the cake...

How was your first experience with the FUNi dub like?

The first time I interacted with the FUNi dub was not with the dub it self but with two of its fans. It was back around 2005-2006. I remember I was with two of my cousins one day. They would come to visit around twice a year. We were playing with our Gameboys and they just happend to have one of the...

Re: What made you switch over to the Japanese version?

While I now love the original Japanese version just as much as the Latin American dub, I haven't switch over to exclusively watching the Japanese version. And I'll never will. I just never had to. By the time I started watching dbz back in 2001, the Latin American dub had already been finished. Ther...
