Re: Has TFS damaged the reputation of the franchise in the U
All fanbases have their idiot fans, and TFS is no exception. Case in point: John Stephenson was a guest at BotCon 2001 (that's the big, Hasbro-sponsored Transformers convention, if you weren't aware). Now, here's the thing: Stephenson, despite being one of the oldest-living Hanna-Barbera voice actor...

Re: Why do so many American fans hate Kai?
DBZ was just another anime to them. To the older dub fans, there wasn't even this silly wall segregating Japanese animation from that of the rest of the planet. DBZ was a cartoon, and it aired right in the middle of the now-dead afternoon block of cartoons. And since Saturday morning cartoons were ...

Now would be a great time for someone to take Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words" routine and slather the audio over footage of Piccolo or Vegeta speaking.

Re: When Ocean Cast switched to Funimation's In House.....
As someone with no exposure to the original version when the new dub cast arrived, I was most appalled with the voice direction. Every time the characters would shudder in terror, their actors would share their impressions of Beavis and Butt-Head laughing, and it drove me NUTS!

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I'm all for another round of "Mike vs. the Dub and Cropping", as it's always a good thing to point out when Dragon Ball is being mishandled. And if there are some actual positives to discuss, than all the better. But if it means pushing back the review of a certain game, then no, I don't w...

Re: Will Ms. Nozawa retire from voicing the Son family?
I grew up with shows like Ninja Turtles and He-Man. I can never watch those anymore, due to the cheesy acting, bad animation, off model artwork, cheesy writing, etc. That sounds suspiciously like a, "I can't watch X or Y show because it's OLD," argument, which is a bit facetious. It stand...

Re: The difference of "Music by" and "Music Produced by"?
In this case, I'm going to guess that the producers told Levy and Mahehi what sort of music was needed, and let them do whatever. Also, and especially in Levy's case, I'm sure that the producers were there to cover for Saban, since Haim Saban has screwed Levy out of millions upon millions of dollars...

I'd say no, since Ginyu in Goku's body was not able to fight as well as some vastly underpowered fighters (Gohan, Krillin, and even Goku in Ginyu's body to an extent).

Return of the Joker was animated digitally at 1080p with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it didn't get a widescreen Blu-ray because that wouldn't have been possible without scaling of some sort, or releasing the disk at 720p. The original edited DVD was 4:3, the later uncut DVD was letterboxed (non-anamorphic)...

Re: Will Ms. Nozawa retire from voicing the Son family?
It used to be an unwritten rule in America (i.e., until toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel started taking too much control over the cartoons they fund) that a voice actor had a role until they voluntarily relinquished it or died, and most of the old-time VAs that are gone (Mel Blanc, Daws Butler, ...

Re: Original Dragon Ball UK DVD Release (2014)
The Saga sets only have English titled end credits. It's been a while since I sold my World Tournament and Ten Shinhan saga releases (back when I was utterly convinced that we'd be getting Dragon Ball Dragon Boxes), but I seem to recall the Saga sets having branching on both the openings and end cr...

Re: What do Japanese fans think of the U.S replacement score
The foreign language dubs of '60s Doctor Who had different scores, but mainly because the BBC only shipped off kinescopes/telercordings to foreign countries with just the finished soundtrack on the optical tracks. (The Beeb's kinescopes were created for the needs of the Australian market, the only o...

If those ratings aren't a karmic punishment for taking Kai off the air, it certainly is for Nickelodeon not having picked up the second season of Mysterious Cities of Gold yet.

Re: Manga UK picks up Dragon Ball
As someone who 1) appreciates the music of the films and TV shows I watch and 2) is a stickler for watching films as intended, pulldown is the price of admission. Dragon Ball fans are lucky: the show's final masters are on 24 fps film, which is not the case for many '80s and '90s TV shows. That mean...

Re: Manga UK picks up Dragon Ball
The plus side is that they won't be time-compressed, which is just a disgusting practice IMO. I've found that NTSC-to-PAL conversions look oddest during pans and certain fast movements, but it's more of a "different" thing as NTSC has its own oddities with 3:2 pulldown frames, after all.

Re: Episode #0352 (05 January 2014)
That first version of "Arrival" sounds suspiciously like a lot of older '80s cartoon and Doctor Who releases that chopped multi-part stories up into one big "movie" presumably because kids would go nuts having to watch (read: fast forward through) the end credits and openings eve...
