Re: Do you think Toriyama changed Buu's origin for a reason.

I just think that, off-the-cuff, he decided to think something up to pad out one of the promotional interviews for the Buu arc of Kai. He's done it before and he'll do it again - if you put Toriyama on the spot over something in-Universe related, he's unlikely to traipse through his own work to mesh...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #37]

I think Tate and One Piece go hand-in-hand, his style is perfectly suited for Luffy's movement especially (being a rubber man and all), but I think for Dragonball the jellyformism can be a little too distracting and surreal. It's all about stylistic consistency at the end of the day I guess; but it'...

Re: Why does Tenshinhan say this?!

It never really made any sense as being anything other than an overly-dramatic send-off for a character who had lost any real narrative function. I mean, sure, Toriyama utilised Tenshinhan well for the purpose of holding back Cell - but his story was more or less done, and had been, really, since be...

Re: The Funimation dub of Dragon Ball is absolutely marvello

I'd say of the three old anime's (pre-Kai) it's the most competent product on the whole, but isn't without a number of serious flaws. Some of the acting performances of the main cast are better than others, but I guess it's then that you move into the realm of subjectivity. Some people just don't li...

Re: What form did Gohan used against Dabra ?

Goku saying Dabra is about as strong as Cell is an incredibly vague statement. It's hyperbolic from an authorial perspective; it ramps up the tension by rendering the danger that the protagonists find themselves in as being equal to, or greater than, anything that has come before. It's a quick and ...

Re: New or Old animation

Just so I'm clear here, what are we talking about when ' old colors ' are referred to? Unlike Dragonball GT which had a noticeably different palette (which was artistically intentional), Dragonball Super uses more or less the same design palette as Dragonball Z - the marked difference being the shar...

Re: What form did Gohan used against Dabra ?

Oh hell, it's back. - Logically, given the whole Cell comparison of Dabra's strength, it should have been Super Saiyan 2. - But.... on the paper it's drawn, it's a regular Super Saiyan (we see Gohan go Super Saiyan 2 a few chapters prior at the Tenkaichi Budokai, and there is a clear artistic differ...

Re: New or Old animation

Primarily, this debate begins and ends with industry attitudes and standards - both of which have shifted dramatically since digital animation fully superseded cell animation at Toei. The main thing to keep in mind is that digital animation offers flexibility and re-usability that celluloid animatio...

Re: Is tension dead for you?

Is tension 'dead' in Dragonball? No, but a dark, hopeless complexion of despair is far from Toriyama's thinking since the Earthquake. He has gone on the record numerous times, especially during the promotion cycle for 'Battle of Gods', to say that he has been mindful to deliberately steer the plot t...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

I'm just hoping for something new and interesting. Two weeks is a long while to go without any new Super info outside of "By the way, Vegeta gets to fight the next three opponents." @_@ Going on break with a non-cliffhanger episode didn't help either. If we're really going to get three fi...

Re: After this interview, would you like other studio for Su

GT had good fights? Yes. Quite a few, actually. Back in the good ol' days when Shimanuki produced excellent work. Most of the arcs had many decent action moments. Man, it still frustrates me how much Toei jacked up the ending of that Gohan/Goten vs Vegeta fight. The whole possessed brotherly-red-an...

Re: Is there anyway of watching the old Westwood Dub anymore

The short answer is that there's no way of watching it legally. The dub has never been released on home-media, and to my knowledge, isn't airing anywhere in the world right now. As has been previously stated, there are complete rips of broadcast audio floating around the internet if you look hard en...

Re: Are you satisfied with the story of Super so far?

It's one of the few cases where the more staggered-out adaptation in the Anime really makes something considerably superior out of the source material. The anime's version is a lot better especially with the fights cause the manga's were way to short especially for the rematch between Goku and Vege...

Re: Are you satisfied with the story of Super so far?

I'm probably in the minority that love the Majin Boo arc, and see it as one of the hight points of the series, and loathe the Android/Cell arc and see that arc as one of the low points of the series. I love it as well, it's currently my favorite arc in the franchise. I like how it pays homages to e...

Alright guys so which is it?? Because I'm in the school of thought that says the Manga is much closer to the original vision then this anime. Re: Are you satisfied with the story of Super so far?

I wish we could have a movie summarizing every relevant bit of Champa Arc. I think there's a high chance the 3rd movie will be a Champa arc adaption. I dunno, if Super has told Toei anything, it's that rehashing story-lines that are fresh in the memory doesn't go down well. They've managed to trade...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

Damn, Toyotaro has a great eye for fight choreography. I dunno, I think he gets stuck in a rut sometimes and overuses the whole blurry-fast-paced-scrappy-fight-hands thing. I have nothing against his work on the whole, but it just makes me find a deeper appreciation for how Toriyama was able to ima...
