But on a serious note, I'm a member at all kinds of forums for anime, and each anime has it's "extremists" fans. At the Naruto sites, you'll always find people saying the dub sucks(Even though its much better than most) and they'll probably base this off of "believe it", even th...

Funny fact: That's not me in my avatar. It's a random guy in what I thought was a terribly funny Piccolo cosplay. I think it's funny when people think that having something as your avatar means it must be you. Look at Daimao's avatar as of example of how this is faulty reasoning. Remember when this...

I don't know, "monster" is my usual go-to translation for "bakemono," but it just sounded weird to my ear there. Broli doesn't particularly have any scales, green skin, tentacles, fins, fangs, claws, wings, tails (oh, wait...), oversize wheels, overpriced AV cables, or anything e...

It's nice that people pick up on these. One other I would mention is "oyaji," which I tend to translate as "my old man" in 3rd-person and "Pop" in 1st-person. I think the only one who uses it in DB is Broli, but it's not uncommon in other shows. Keen ears may have notic...

Hey, I have unlimited power. I can also beat up anyone who sets foot in my home. I can record audio of me saying that, too. Hell, I could have have Steve Simmons translate it over to Japanese and then back to English. That would prove that I really do have unlimited power, and can also beat up anyo...

Not only does [Daimao] take time out of his busy schedule to help out the fans (and damn, it sure sounds like he's busy) but he does so so quickly. Mr. Simmons, we salute you. I'll second that very enthusiastically. We all love the guy who named himself after the green demon who wanted to eradicate...

In other places, I've translated the "ryouri" one along the lines of "serving someone up" (ie, "How would you like me to serve you up?"). But yeah, it's a colloquialism that doesn't cross over into English any closer than that. Same for the "warukatta" thing. ...

It's probably on me. I went and looked, and yes, the second sentence in Yamucha's line went untranslated. It should have been something about Trunks being an important force against the Artificial Humans. I don't have the original script anymore to check against (hard drive failures will do that), b...

I seem to remember having Goku use the term "winky" when he was demonstrating that he knew the difference between boys and girls to the Turtle Hermit. That was a nod to the crowd at alt.fan.dragonball at the time.

And then I screwed it all up by spelling it "winkie."

Couldn't find a tidy page addressing the "nani" being a negative interjection thing, so take my word for it, I guess.

I've never called him Guru myself, but it did get changed to that (as well as several other names) in the first couple of discs. I think it has been consistently "Grand Elder," though I may have slipped "Great Elder" in there by accident at times.

From episode 20, as it appeared on Cartoon Network back in July of '05.

No real reason why I'm posting this, except maybe to compare the overscan issue, which will be different on different TVs anyhow.
