Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

Can it be done? Yes. That's all that matters in the end. Filler aside,Toriyama didn't wave a magic wand and give talent to animators, voice actors, and music composers ether. So don't downplay other factors in the creative process. Talented people can be found for film adaption too, easil...

ABED wrote:Except that Toriyama's magic comes from Toriyama.
And you can take that magic the same way the original anime took it, and Super too.
The material is there from the manga for filmmakers to faithfully adapt, it can be done.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread

Kuriboh being British is an issue then, since he obviously is having trouble hiding his accent. Nothing against him actually being British though, (obviously) I just don't think his Freeza voice sounds fitting enough.

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

Again, DB has humor and silly character moments that will balance that action. I'm not surprised if audiences weren't to keen on the pretentious depressing dreck of BvS. Justice league was tossed around directors and writers so not valid a comparison. If people can get behind Guardians of the Galaxy...

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

much of this sort of stuff that they are basically numb to it. Large scale fights destruction doesn't work anymore. It won't get people into the theater. You speak for all audiences now? There are tons of successful franchises from Marvel and various others of varying quality that says quite the op...

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

You don't need a budget for well choreographed fights. When it involves moments of two super powered beings flying around, shooting ki blasts, flying into mountains, while an alien world crumbles around them, Yes. you do. Saying fighting is not just as important to the characters of Dragon Ball is ...

That, and the half assed editing, shitty cropping, and TFS like lines here and there.(wrooooong, just saiyin etc) It's watchable, but still drags and is very messy.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Yeah, I have issues with moments in the Buu kai dub (that kai arc just can't get a break, such a mess), but for the most part there is a nice balance in the kai dub. Any similarity to the Z dub script comes from moments where the Z dub was decently translated so in Kai there was little reason other ...

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

The slice of life episodes I'm hoping we eventually get are a Halloween episode and a Christmas episode. Toei's Precure gets both of those every year so it's not like Toei doesn't do holiday specials. Aren't those set in a our world technically? DB's alternative universe might pose a problem with t...

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

Makes no difference, Man of steel was a visual comparison, I really don't care weather you liked the fight/story itself or not. Dragon Ball is about fighting, it should look impressive. You not caring because your mighty brain can never be fooled by visuals is a lame argument. Dragon Ball is the ser...

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

Splitting hairs, if we can have the best of both worlds why not? I know what's real and what's CGI too but that doesin't mean I'd accept shitty effects even if everything else was good. Why would anyone even want to watch a live action series focused on fighting if the fighting didn't even look good...

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

Your loss then. Anyway, I would find bringing Buu's wife into a slice of life series a hilarious idea, more hijinks with Satan too. We could even have an episode where the bus have their own version of sex. Finally! Bulma and her sis and possibly Jaco going on a little adventure would be fun...

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

Balance, it should go on all fronts of the production, like any good film should. If you don't believe the characters in front of your eyes are doing these incredible feats it won't matter how well done the script and cast is.

Re: DB in live action: what does and does not work (pics)

I don't think anyone is disagreeing that a actual well done live action DB should look cheap. It definitely needs a good size budget to work.

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

There can be episodes about fighting here and there, like Beerus/Freeza stuff etc. As for slice of life, there's tons you can do, even Toriyama came up with tons of ideas for DB online. Super has many examples too, Pan went missing in one episode and the conflict focused on Goku being worried about ...

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

So do you like the driving episode or not? Do you think Seinfeld has stories or not? I don't get your argument anymore. How is any of this evidence this series can't work? Again, I recommend checking out some episodes of Super. The Buu arc could of ended multiple times had characters not made dumb c...

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

You're reaching again, Super has plenty of good slice of life. I don't even think the driving episode in DBZ is that bad per say, but how is that episode existing translate to all slice of life episodes will have no story? Well that's rather close minded. Does such a show need to exists? No, of cour...

Re: Would you watch a "slice of life" Dragon Ball series?

Ok, but how is any of this evidence that there can't be conflict in a DB series about "slice of life"?

You're only backing up my own opinion to begin with. You don't need fighting for conflict in a story.
