Blu Ray Ep 22 missing English TrueHD?
My copy of DBZ Kai Season 1, on episode 22, the one where Vegeta kills Dodoria, there is no English "TrueHD" audio. There is only the AC3 audio for the English, while the Japanese still has both TrueHD and AC3. However, the "marathon mode" file, that has all the episodes cut together, has TrueHD.
Does anyone know if this is an artifact of when it was manufactured? Say if I bought one that was made more recently, would the files be different? I'm thinking it might not because the disc files themselves are named "DBZ Kai Part 1/2/3 etc" rather than "season 1/2/3 etc," so they just took the files from the individual parts and copied them onto the season set discs without changing them.

THD is lossless while AC-3 is lossy. You'd generally find AC-3 audio tracks more on DVDs but also on Blu-rays too.SheonGT wrote:There are TrueHD and AC3 options explain?
Re: Blu Ray Ep 22 missing English TrueHD?
I popped season 1 disc 3 in my PC and checked m2ts file in the STREAM folder; episode 22 does not have an English TrueHD track.
File size of episode 22 (00048.m2ts) is also quite a bit smaller than the other episodes.
*note* the files show a 2019 date because I ripped the entire disc with MakeMKV

@Scavenger That's what I'm talking about. When did you buy yours? I bought mine in 2014. This is quite a weird issue, but at least marathon mode has lossless audio. No other DBZ or DBZ Kai or DBZ movies have this issue but this one specific disc.

There's no TrueHD English audio in marathon mode either and your player is displaying incorrect information. The way Blu-ray works is that it uses a playlist file from the PLAYLIST folder to access the required video/audio data from the STREAM folder. The marathon mode playlist (00000.mpls) and the episode 22 playlist (00040.mpls) access the data of episode 22 (00048.m2ts) in the STREAM folder. 00048.m2ts does not contain English TrueHD audio.

When I look at the disc contents in makeMKV it says there are individual episode files and one huge marathon file. The marathon file is shown to have TrueHD on that disc.Scavenger wrote:December 2013.Dagon wrote:@Scavenger That's what I'm talking about. When did you buy yours? I bought mine in 2014. If you rip the marathon version and go to episode 22, then the English TrueHD audio is completely mute.Dagon wrote:When I look at the disc contents in makeMKV it says there are individual episode files and one huge marathon file. I just looked at my MKV file that's straight from the disc rip and episode 22 is just gone. It's completely cut. What the hell Funimation...Scavenger wrote:Dagon wrote:Scavenger wrote: If you rip the marathon version and go to episode 22, then the English TrueHD audio is completely mute.

Wait, is this just for the Season 1 Blu-ray? Does the audio track involved use Yamamoto, or does it use the Kikuchi replacement score?

There was a V1 Season 1 by FUNimation in 2012 which featured the original score but in 2013 they did a reprint with the new "original" score.Scavenger wrote:Season 1 set (eps 1-26), Kikuchi replacement score.Danfun64 wrote:Wait, is this just for the Season 1 Blu-ray? Now, if we were talking about Manga UK's Kai seasons, the Yamamoto music is on S1 and S2, up to episode 39.
