I don't see why there's so much pessimism in this thread for DBS ratings? Although it fluctuates, it's still consistently one of the highest rated shows in the lineup.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:Good Night for DBS!

Question, has anyone seen the late evening showing for Super? I see the 8PM show is in the top 150 programs for Saturday 18th and even Kai, but not the later show.

Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
I think it comes from the fact it is sometimes trending lower than back to back reruns of American Dad, Family Guy, and Bobs Burger. Despite being a brand new show in the 8PM primetime slot and likely costing a ton in licensing fees vs those others. The (r) indicates rerun I believe. Anyway the late night is much stronger than I would have guessed but makes sense given the those who are interested in late night toonami would probably show an interest in Dragonball.bleed0range wrote:I don't see why there's so much pessimism in this thread for DBS ratings? This isn't the only forum I visit and trust me this isn't th case at all. The amount of "fans" willing to watch DB subbed that liked the original DBZ is only a fraction of the entire fan base of DBZ, in fact there are large portions that say they like falucnor and funimation original dub.OLKv3 wrote:This is the main reason. I don't think calling American Dad or Bobs Burger reruns smash hits compared to a brand new Dragonball series from the original creator is even a comparison they shouldn't even be in the same ballpark. I plan on composing a thread of American reactions to Super but I'm waiting for the latest numbers to give a full story.
Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
Is there any proof about your statement of only a few fans being willing to watch the sub ? That sounds like made up bull shit to me. They'res tons of people who prefer the dub, but many were willing to watch the sub anyways even if they didn't like it. Heck, I've read tons of stories from people that hated the sub but like it now because of super. I also know many friends that watch super in Japanese even though they're not anime or sub fans.TheMikado wrote:This isn't the only forum I visit and trust me this isn't th case at all. Not to mention that the episodes airing are pretty much reruns themselves and they've gotten an overly negative reputation.
I think you're just looking for any reason to say western fans hate Dragonball super which clearly isn't the case. The fact of the matter is that it's destroying other anime.

Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
And this is based on what exactly?? Because I'm simply looking at the same channel during a comparable time slot. We have a brand new show from one of the largest entertainment franchises ever in anime or any animated media and that airs at 8PM and 1130PM agains reruns of older shows. Look I'm not here to talk hyperbole and how "awful" or "amazing" it's doing. I'm just looking for straight up facts and comparing it to other shows on the same channel around similar time slots or even just comparing Super to Kai.which clearly isn't the case. The fact of the matter is that it's destroying other anime.

I can't tell if Jojo is hurting both Gundam and Hunter x Hunter, or if it's just Gundam hurting HxH.
Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
The retellings only got a overall negative rating by hardcore fans. Most casual fans enjoyed the retellings for the most part and a lot of people on Toonami never saw the movies since they never got a broadcast released.kinisking wrote: Is there any proof about your statement of only a few fans being willing to watch the sub ? Exactly, we can't assume much about Toonami fan-base, but I think its fair to say a significant part of the audience may not be actively watching the subbed DB Super.HeroR wrote:The retellings only got a overall negative rating by hardcore fans. As far as the ratings being very good.. Dragonball is perhaps the largest animated franchise of all time, it eclipses pretty much any single animated franchise in existence with a completely brand new series that hasn't existed in decades.
I expect it to do much better than say Bob's Burger or Rick & Morty reruns with an 8PM time slot. I not saying 10x larger audience, but I was expecting a bit more. Knowing the licenses for syndication of these other properties is dirt cheap I wonder how much Toonami is actually making on airing Super rather than a cheaper IP.

What you people don't see is not everyone is into Subtitles like you guys. You put yourselves on a pedestal because you watch it in its purist version. I'm one of those people who'd much rather watch the English dub. I just happen to also to be impatient, so I'm not willing to wait for the dub to catch up. While I enjoy watching the sub, I'll always choose the English over Japanese when it comes to Dragon Ball.
There are a lot of people who are in the same boat as me. Some even refusing to watch the Japanese just because of Gokus voice. That's fine. But that doesn't give you all the right to be condescending assuming that everyone is willing to watch subs. To be honest I'd do the same if English was 10 episodes behind or something.
Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
First of all, I personally prefer the English dub. So this whole pedestal thing that you're talking about means nothing to me.dragonballgeek wrote:It's not made up.
