Question about the Dragonball Z digitally Remastered DVD set
Hello Everyone!
I am an avid Dragonball fan and Currently have finished all of my Edited Versions of Dragonball on DVD. I am wondering if the Remastered Dragonball Movie Versions that are shown on amazon.com are worth buying?
They have a 1:33 view and I assume that will have the black bars on the top and the bottom of the TV when you watch Dragonball if you have a HDTV Standard TV like I do. Mine is 4:3 for an HDTV.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OM ... d_i=507846
I am assuming you cannot view these in 4:3 unless you get the Non-uncut version right?

And no, they're not worth getting. They're over saturated and blurred.
Funi is releasing the Dragon box versions of the movies anyway.

The remastered double-feature movies are probably the best DBZ releases from FUNimation that aren't DragonBoxes. There are some very minor saturation issues and the audio for the Japanese tracks are a bit iffy on a few. But otherwise, they're very nice releases.
FUNi may or may not be releasing DBox editions of the movies soon. Evidently they have the rights to them, but otherwise there's been no hint as to when or how they'll be on the market. It's up to you whether or not you'd want to wait or get the remastered editions to hold you over. But their "problems" are just minor annoyances compared to the flaws of the Season Sets.

The movies were shown in Japan in 16:9.Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Don't the double features have the same flaws as the season sets? Cropped, altered colors and all that? How are the flaws minor?

Yeah, even though they were made in 4:3 (because 4:3 animation cels are cheaper than 16:9 ones, I believe), it's not the way they were ....meant to be seen.
The Japanese Movies Dragon Box has them all in 16:9.

Can't you see? He's the man. Let me hear you applaud. He's more than a man! He's a shiny golden god!
Cropping - The movies were animated and produced to be cropped into widescreen. The presentation is better that way. "The way it was meant to be seen" actually applies.Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Don't the double features have the same flaws as the season sets? Cropped, altered colors and all that? Altered colors - Some slight saturation issues. Only noticeable if you're actually looking for them. Otherwise they're extremely close to the "true" colors.

Thanks for the info, guys. I didn't know that about the movies.
Questions - Will the DBox versions of the movies be released in their own set, or will they be released with the succeeding DBoxes? If not, is it best to just splurge forth some cash on the double features?
I have all 13 movies uncut, but they're the single-disc/fullscreen releases.
I plan to get volume 1 for Christmas, so I'm very excited.

If you wanna get these now....then I'm sure you'll have made that money back(and more) by the time FUNi gets around to the DBox movies.
Basically, I'd buy these now if you just want them to hold you over until the Dbox movies.

We don't know if Funi will release the movies together as a box set (or if at all, really), but that's pretty likely, especially since the DBox line is marketed to completists like many of us here.Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Thanks for the info, guys. I didn't know that about the movies.

Since you already have them on DVD in some form, I recommend hanging onto those for now and waiting to see if Funi releases the Dragon Box versions. That way, you've got more to look forward to and won't be wasting money on an intermediate release to just tide you over. The catch is, no one knows how long we'll be waiting yet.
I can see their parachutes.
That's one thing I noticed about FUNi's original Season Set Trailer. The trailer they released that said "The Way it was Meant to be Seen" and showed that breakdown of the more "Cinematic feel" and "Gained image on the sides" used shots from Movie 8 to make it's point... funny they picked a movie so technically they weren't lyingSSj Kaboom wrote:Cropping - The movies were animated and produced to be cropped into widescreen.
