OK, see this is why I am confused. The vhs tapes are edited or not edited? I know the Saiyan and Namek are edited but everything after that seems to be titled uncut. So what do the "uncut" tapes entail? Are they the toned down tv versions or not?
Both. FUNi released two versions, the uncut and the edited versions.
So if I'm looking to buy the entire series on vhs, I'm just going to have to search tape by tape? Ugh, that sounds like a lot of work. Probably just going to get the saiyan saga and that will have to tide them over until they are older.
The cut versions of the Saiyan and Namek sagas were also released on DVD, so for those you don't have to go all the way back to VHS if you want to show your kids an edited version. For the rest of the series the cut version was only released on VHS.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. One last question. Does anyone know where on the box or packaging to look to tell which version is which? If anyone has a vhs with cut or uncut labeled on it a pic would be awesome! Thanks again!

The uncut VHS say "(UNCUT)" after the title on the cover, while the edited versions have the title only.

I keep forgetting that it's been nearly 20 years (FUCK!) since those tapes were released. To me, it feels like yesterday, so it's odd when people ask about the tapes.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I stop buying DB tapes after 2003 since I got a PS2 for X-mas that year. I would personally buy them for the episodes I didn't own or seen yet. The uncut episodes always had the 13+ sticker on them. I remember people at Suncoast and Sam Goody would tell parents that this tape is Uncut and that there will be blood and swearing.
