Remastered DVD's VS Dragon Box quality comparison thread

Post by SSJToreto » Wed Dec 26, 2007 3:00 pm

As you all know the Dragon Box footage beats the "remastered" DVD's by a long shot. After purchasing 9 of the Dragon Ball Z singles, I can't even look at a "remastered" episode anymore.

But please, don't take my word for it, take a look at these comparison pic's from the first episode of DBZ and see for yourself:

(pic's taken by me)

Ok here it is! The comparison of that SSJ Goku image with missing lines! :)

FUNi's remastered version of the clip from season 3 (taken by me)

YouTube is pretty crappy though, but it should work.

So these are from episode 1 of DBZ single VOL.1.

I plan to upload atleast a couple of comparison pic's per DBox volume.

Gokuden looks like an ass now.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's sad that I am almost so used to FUNI's bright-ass colors that the Dragon Box ones look wrong. I have to say, I like the Dragon Box much better, skin color actually looks right!

Guess it's the other way around for me. I'm too used to the Dbox colors. Well the movies version but they have similar colors to the TV series so it doesn't matter.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Yah the price is whats keeping me from buying them also. But I ordered one volume just to be sure if they are worth it. The only problem is that it's gonna take 21 days for shipment T_T

I love the grain on the Dragonbox's.

DNR makes everything look too clean.

Shouldn't that be a good thing? The flaw of DVNR is that it blurs everything and makes weverything looked washed out.

Am I one of the only people who prefers the bright look of Funi? Guess so.

I don’t see this as complaining about the sets merely comparing the two remastering proceses. Although it’s obvious which one is superior by now. We don't exactly need this to tell us.

I can see why someone would like the clean, bright "Nick Jr." colors, but I prefer a series to look it's age. Even if they did clean the dirt off of the DBox ones it still looks like something from 1989.

What I'd like to see is a comparison between the old FUNi singles and the new FUNi remasters.
