Still doesn't explain the lack of oriental clothing that Chichi normally we--ah the hell with it. This movie's already gone as far as making Goku normally wear modern clothing and thrown him into high school.

With writing like that, there's no need for an explanation for any of the crap involved in the movie.

But how exactly can we be sure of this? Call me a doubter, but most of the praise going into still shots like these have been "Well maybe this and that happens." Hopeful wishing, if I have to give it a term.

Actually this plot point has been established for some time now. From Mai's casting notes:

MAI: Late 20s, female, her features exotic, sexy but deadly, dressed in gleaming black, with weapons strapped all over her body, she's a martial arts expert and Lord Piccolo's chief enforcer. Crafty and quick thinking, Mai uses her ability to shapeshift near the climax of the movie and takes on the form of Chi Chi, a young martial arts expert who's romantically involved with Goku and later saves Piccolo from Master Roshi's curse; once she is revealed she ends up in the fight of her life.

Also- in that licensing trailer that got leaked, we see two Chi Chi's facing off against each other.

Well, yes, but the question (I think?) was more "How do we know that the ChiChi with a gun is Mai in disguise, and not the writer(s) being retarded?"

Seeing movie-Chi-Chi with a gun is like seeing Goku with a scouter. It's just as safe and logical to assume the former is really Mai as it is the latter is really Ginyu.

People are gonna see what they wanna see. It's just a matter of how Optimistic/Pessimistic you are towards the movie.

I just wanted to point some things out if no one noticed.

First, the red circle, there is definitely some kind of Antennae like thing/ridge that looks like one.

Second, I ran the color picker over Piccolo's head to see what colors came up, and of course, not green, but more of an olive color, which is at least closer than yellow.

Yes, but she could just as easily be the real Chi-chi about to defeat the fake Chi-chi once and for all.

That’s nothing new though; we’ve see those things before. They’re antenna-like, I guess, except for the fact that they don’t appear to stick out, which is what antennae are named for (resembling sail yards).

Well, it was never bright yellow; more pale. But I’m so glad we can finally put the “he could still be green!” theories to rest. I’m sure it will continue until opening day anyway, but even if that isn’t the climactic fight, he’s clearly young and able-bodied; I mean he has Goku literally bending over backwards to avoid being toasted; I think it’s safe to say that that is him, and his skin tone does not change very drastically, if at all.

Hey, ya never know. She could disguise herself as Bulma at some point (maybe she did to steal the DragonBall from Bulma's father) But so far, the only person we know she transforms into is Chi-Chi, and we've had no indication that the real Chi-Chi ever uses guns.

The only laser Chichi's ever fired was from her helmet as a kid.

Aside from that, she grew up learning martial arts. What use could she need a laser gun for?
