Dragon Ball GT: Season 1 Discussion

Post by DB_Fan1991 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:07 am

As Pre-Order copies will be coming soon I figured I'd start this thread now. Obviously I have some questions

1. Is There a Dub with Japanese Music option?
2. If so is Dan Dan Kokoro Hikarete Ku kept as the opening theme?
3. Is Hitori Ja Nai the ending for episodes 1-26 and Don't You See for 27-34?
4. In episode 27 does Dan Dan switch to the 2nd animation?
5. Are there any redubbed characters?

Though it doesn't have much bearing on this discussion, Madman are putting out the "lost episodes" in five disc fat-packs and are following suit with the rest of the series, they are retailing for $50 bucks, which makes them cheaper than the Z season sets, though with less episodes.

Interesting, I wonder if Madman is trying to get rid of old stock, or maybe they aren't going to bother with the GT season sets.

You know, I always wondered...why hasn't FUNi actually bothered to attempt dubbing the openings and endings like they did with Dragon Ball?

Also, remember to post some screens if anyone gets any. I'll gladly post Dragon Box screens for comparison's sake. :D

FUNimation are marketing DBGT in the same faux-hardcore fashion as they did with Z, something like Dan Dan doesn't really fit with their marketing image.

Oh right, I forgot. According to FUNi, I don't know GT. :(

Yeah, sappy love songs don't go well with the "I'll rip out your f****** tongue and stick it up your..." attitude of GT

I'm actually beginning to wonder if the set's repeatedly pushed-back release date was the result of them deciding to do somethings special... But I'm not gonna get my hopes up TOO much.

A "special" Dragonball release by Funi? Whatever type of stuff you're on, I would like to sell it. :)
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking.

But still... Something in my gut tells me something new or at least out-of-the-ordinary is going down with these GT sets. It'd most likely be something regarding the openings or music, since that's what's going to need the most adjustment if FUNi's going to promote it via having the Japanese BGM and such.

Who knows. I guess we'll find out how it is once it gets released. Like folks said, people are gonna start getting their pre-orders in in the next week or so.

Hey, maybe we'll find out what happened to that guy who did the remastering stuff from the Season One Z set...

I'll do my best to answer these once I get my set. I should have the Season One set in the next few days. I preordered from TRSI, and they usually ship preorders pretty early.

I should be able to post screenshots from the OP/ED and a few episodes when I get it as well.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I've seen someone claiming to have received their set on the FUNimation forum, word is the sets have English versions of the opening and endings and a 4:3 presentation, though next episode previews are MIA.

Can anyone confirm this?

Also, hooray at the forums being back!

Aw, man, I was just about to say that... Also, the japanese eyecatchers are kept and all variations of the openings/endings are intact. No japanese episode title-cards, though.

The lack of title cards was kind of expected, with FUNimation refusing to do alternate angles these days.

I also heard something about FUNimation inserting their own GT logo into Dan Dan?

Yes, I actually kept saying that before too, no way we were gonna get alternate angles, so I'm not surprised. On the other hand, FUNi inserting their own GT-logo? I didn't think they'd do that, seeing how it's almost identical to the japanese one anyway... But really, we should probably wait for someone who actually owns the set to confirm that last part.

That piece of info was actually given to us by the same guy that apparently has the set. The same guy that's given us all the other information.

To bring everybody who doesn't read the FUNi forums up to speed, here's what this guy has said so far.

- 34 Episodes, 5 Discs.
- The episodes are presented in uncropped fullscreen.
- English versions of the Japanese songs have been made.
- Both versions of the opening animation are included.
- Both endings are included.
- The eyecatchers are intact.
- The next episode previews are excluded.
- There are no alternate angles. The Japanese credits/title cards are excluded.
- The "GT" logo has apparently been replaced in the opening animation.

I'd really love for somebody else who has the set to confirm all this, but I'll believe this guy until he's proven wrong.

So what, did they translate the title cards properly or are they just rehashes of the old dub title cards. I ask that only because I know that the announcer in the original actually announces the titles unlike in the dub.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I don't have the set, but I can be pretty sure of this: The titles are the same as they've always been in the dub. But we still get the original titles spoken by the narrator, so it's not a huge deal or anything.

Are these creditless versions? I thought FUNi didn't have these for Opening 2 and Endings 2-4.
Are the original Japanese credits translated at all, such as the cast and stuff?
