Bardock's age?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Bardock's age?

Post by Dayspring » Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:59 pm

Is Bardock's age given in any of the Daizenshuu? It isn't in volume 7's bio, but I was wondering if it was in any of the movie/anime guides.

I know Bardock's Spacepod (fansite) says 30-35, but that's going according to what he looks like, and I want specifics. ESPECIALLY since we know Saiyans age more slowly than humans (ie: 52 year old Vegeta looks like he's in his late 30's/early 40's).

Yeah I have BTS say that he's 30-35, but I'm not sure on what his true age is. I'm curious about this too.

I would imagine around 25/26. So it's like he's the same age as his son when he faced Freeza. Like both faced the despotic tyrant at the same age, but Son Goku succeeded where his father failed. I don't know....

I remember reading somewhere that he was born in the year 700, which would make him exactly 37 when he died. I went to double check your site, and was surprised+disappointed to find I have no clue where that's from. :(

I'm going by Greg's translations, but according to the daizenshuu:
Greg's daizenshuu 7 timeline translations wrote:Approximately 550 A.D:
- The first Saiya-jin land on the planet Plant in a mysterious ship

720-730 A.D.:
- The Saiya-jin unite and begin a war against the Tsufuru-jin for control of the planet Plant
- The Tsufuru-jin are completely destroyed by the Saiya-jin. The Saiya-jin take control of the planet and re-name it Vegeta. They adapt Tsufuru technology
- The Saiya-jin begin space travel and meet aliens from other planets

731 A.D.:
- The Saiya-jin begin their partnership with Freeza and start conquering planets for sale

732 A.D.:
- The birth of Prince Vegeta
OK... as such, it's obvious that Bardock was born significantly before 732, since he's much older than Vegeta. Vegeta is 5 years old when the planet blows up (737 AD), where-as Bardock's a fully-grown adult. There's nothing that explicitly states what Bardock's age is, when he was born, etc. He's definitely older than 12 when the planet blows up, so he much have been born significantly before that period of taking over Plant. As such, the theory of being born in around 700 makes sense, but it's really hard to tell, for sure... because we can't.

The thing I really hated about the Chronology (and the Tsufuls), is that it means the Saiyans were only major players for 7 years. Although, it would explain how a low level Saiyan like Bardock could have a PL of 10,000; during the Tsuful War he was probably as weak as pre-Z Goku and had a near-death experience. Without any medical facilities and still having to fight in a war for years, his healing factor would have been maxed. In the way some people have outrageous speed or ki manipulative abilities, Bardock could have a highly "trained" healing factor. This could also explain his disdain for being a low level warrior: his PL is among the upper elite, but for some reason he never got promoted.

I don't know about the first part, but I don't think Saiyans can get promoted, their potential and class are (sometimes wrongfully, like with Goku and Bardock) determined at birth and are dependent of what class the parents were. So maybe you could be promoted one class or so at birth, but then you're stuck there forever.
