Chapter 33

A girl nervously peeked her head out from under the massive root she had been using for shelter. The ground wasn't shaking anymore, and the tremendous lights and sounds from the sky seemed to have stopped, at least for now.

Looking up into the green sky, she suddenly spied a red streak, like the tail of a comet, rapidly falling to earth. She watched it descend, shielding her eyes from the flash as it crashed nearby in a bright explosion.

Nervous but curious, she set out across the barren wasteland in the general direction of the crash site.

After less than half an hour of walking, she came upon a large, recently-formed crater in the ground, still emitting wisps of smoke. Inspecting the very bottom of the crater, she was surprised to see... an animal?

"Food!" was her first thought, overriding all others, as she scampered down the crater walls, doing her best to ignore the burning heat of the rock below her feet. Finally, she arrived at her destination.

She had never seen a creature like this before, but it was obvious that it was indeed a living being... or it had once been living, at least. Its body was heavily wounded and charred, and it lay there unmoving. She considered taking it back home so she could cook it properly, but her hunger was threatening to overwhelm her. Besides, she figured, it looked as if it was effectively cooked already. Hungrily, she leaned in to take a bite.

Beerus was roused from his state of unconsciousness by the unpleasant sensation of a set of teeth biting down on his tail.

"Ow! What the-?" he shouted, springing to his feet. In front of him was a strange creature, which quickly fell to its back as he rapidly stood up. "Kadab?" he muttered, before his vision began to clear, and he recognized that he was definitely not facing the Demon King.

He just barely had time to take in the features of the being before him. It was short, bipedal, with dark blue skin and a pair of reddish wings, and its head was surmounted by two horn-like projections - decidedly less sharp and dangerous-looking than the Dai Makaioshin's, however.

Before he could speak again, the pain of his wounds began to overtake him. He had lost a lot of blood, and he could still feel the remnants of Kadab's Hellfire burning him from the inside. Despite his efforts to stay on his feet, his eyes rolled back into his head, and he collapsed onto the ground.

The demon girl watched with astonishment. Whatever this thing was, it was still alive! And had it just spoken the name of the Dai Makaioshin? Could this have something to do with the calamity in the sky she had so recently witnessed?

She rushed over to the fallen creature, turning its body over and attempting to feel for a heartbeat. After a few seconds, she found it, weak though it was.

Who was this being? He was certainly unlike any demon, devil, or wizard she had ever heard of. And more importantly, what would she do with him?

For a while she considered eating him like she had originally intended - he didn't seem to be in much of a condition to put up a fight. However, this situation was unusual enough that her curiosity was piqued to the extreme. Slowly grabbing hold of the strange creature, she hoisted him on her back and began carrying him back in the direction of her home. Maybe Parappas would be able to shed some light on this, she thought.

It was slow going - not only was she suffering from intense hunger pangs, but carrying the stranger with her exhausted her even more. After almost an hour, she decided to make camp and rest. She found a promising spot near another one of the ubiquitous giant roots. Propping the unknown creature up against the side of the root, she collapsed onto the ground, sighing with exhaustion.

Beerus next opened his eyes a few hours later. The pain of his wounds was still immense, and it only intensified with every breath and every blink. It took a fair amount of effort to even move his eyeballs from side-to-side, scanning the immediate area. The first thing he noticed was the same short, winged creature from before, laying unconscious on the ground near him. Muscles straining from the attempt, he reached over and tapped the creature on the forehead.

"H..huh? What?", the demon muttered, in a childlike female voice. Looking up at the feline, her eyes widened in surprise. "You're awake!"

"Who are you?" Beerus wheezed, coughing up a bit of blood. "Where is this place?"

"M-my name is Majozo," the demon girl introduced herself, bowing. "Right now we're near the western border of the eastern province, on the Kotts continent."

"The what continent?" Beerus asked, bewildered.

"On the Makai world of Forn," Majozo clarified.

"I still have no idea what you're talking about," Beerus coughed, "but I-" before he could finish, he keeled partway over, lapsing into to a coughing fit.

"You need to take it easy, you're really badly hurt," Majozo said, moving to support him. "It's not that much further to my home. When we get there, Parappas should be able to help you."

"W-where's Kadab?" Beerus managed to choke out.

"You mean Kadab-sama, the Dai Makaioshin? I have no idea. I don't think he's ever visited this planet personally," the demon girl said. "Do you know him?"

"I was just... *cough*... fighting him earlier..."

Majozo gasped. "You fought against Kadab-sama? And you're still alive?"

"Just barely," the feline whimpered. "Seems like he didn't finish the job."

"Well, well, well," a deep, hoarse voice rang out, interrupting their conversation. "What do we have here?"

A large, brutish ogre-looking being stood several meters from the makeshift encampment, holding a large stone club. "Fresh meat. Looks like it's my lucky day!"

"Uh-oh," Majozo said, springing to her feet and attempting to grab Beerus and pull him alongside her.

"Don't think you can get away!" the ogre shouted, moving to cut off their only escape path. Majozo tried to run past him but the ogre grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and tossed her back against the root.

Beerus, meanwhile, had finally struggled to his feet again. After taking the worst beating of his life at the hands of Kadab, he was looking for someone to take out his anger and frustration on, and this beast seemed like the perfect fit. Charging the ogre, he was surprised to find himself batted aside like nothing with one swing of the creature's club.

"I... guess I haven't recovered as much as I thought," he murmured, collapsing to the ground as the ogre closed in on him.

"Now, let's tenderize the meat a bit before eating," the ogre said, smacking his club against one hand as he slowly approached the prone Beerus.

Chapter 34

Beerus once again attempted to stand up, but the pain was unbearable. He couldn't even get to his knees.

'Dammit, is this how it's going to end?' he thought, watching the hungry ogre close in. 'Me, the fighting champion of the universe and top candidate for Hakaishin, killed by some no-name weakling on some barren planet in the ass-end of the cosmos? If I knew this was how I was going to die, I would rather have been killed by Kadab. At least he was legitimately strong. Well, on the bright side, at least now I can join the North Kaioh's team for real. I wonder when the next tournament is?

The dying feline's train of thought was interrupted by a shout from the young demon girl. "Hey, back off!"

The ogre turned around to look at his challenger.

Beerus was baffled. What did she think she was doing? She had already proven to be no match for this brute - she should be taking advantage of the chance to run away!

The ogre apparently felt the same, as he began laughing at Majozo. "Well, isn't that cute?" he rumbled. "What do you think you're going to do, kid? You can't-"

At that point, Majozo adopted a strange stance. Extending the index and pointer fingers on both of hands, she placed them to her temples and began to concentrate. The ogre's expression immediately changed to one of shock and panic.

"No! Don't tell me you're- Ah shit!" he screamed, dropping his club as he scrambled to get away. Beerus watched in fascination. Just what was going on here?

Majozo lowered her hands from her temples and waved them in a short but elegant pattern, then aimed them at the fleeing ogre, index and middle fingers now pointed in his direction. A bright, pink glow spiraled from her fingers, striking the ogre in the back and enveloping him in a pink sphere of light as he continued to flee. At first, nothing seemed to happen, but then the ogre's body began to swell and distort, as if he was being blown up like a balloon.

"Darkness, explode!" Majozo shouted, and the ogre's body burst apart, raining chunks of meat all over the area.

Beerus barely had time to wonder what had just happened before he lost consciousness once again.

The next thing he knew, it was dark, and he couldn't open his eyes. He heard a voice, which, as he recalled, belonged to the little demon named Majozo.

"Come on, Parappas-san, it will only take a second!"

"No," another voice replied - this one male, but high-pitched and somewhat whiny. "I've told you before, I'm very busy."

"But this creature fought against Kadab-sama and survived! He could help us!"

"He fought Kadab, you say?" the second voice, apparently belonging to this 'Parappas' intoned with a note of curiosity.

"Yes! It's been your life's goal to depose him, hasn't it?"

"I'll depose of him in my own way," Parappas announced.

"You're so freaking stubborn, Parappas-san!" Majozo complained. Then, with a devious tone, she continued, "or is it that you don't think your magic is good enough to heal him?"

"What?"

"You just don't want to heal him because you can't!"

"Shut up, girl!" Parappas shouted, clearly irate. "Watch a master wizard at work!"

After a strange chant in an unknown language, Beerus suddenly began to feel revitalized. The remaining traces of Hellfire that were slowly eating away at his internal organs dissipated, and a few of his wounds even closed up. He managed to open his eyes and look around - the pain was still there, but at least it was now somewhat bearable.

"There!" shouted Parappas, now revealed to be a diminutive, wrinkled blue being with oversized eyes and a few scattered hairs atop his otherwise bald head. "I told you I could do it!"

"It looks like you only healed him a bit," Majozo replied skeptically.

"This alien was mauled by Kadab himself," Parappas said dismissively. "There's a limit to even my powers, you know. He'll live though, which is the important part. Now don't bother me! I have very important research to get back to!" With that, the short blue creature left the room.

Beerus looked around - he and Majozo were in a darkly-lit, tomb-like building, seemingly made of the bones of various demons. Testing himself, he found that he could sit up without too much trouble, but he was still having trouble focusing his ki. He was immediately struck with an intense sensation of hunger.

"Hey, have you got anything to eat?" the feline asked.

In response, Majozo handed him a piece of putrid-looking meat on a long fork. Not bothering to inspect it first, Beerus greedily took a bite - only to spit it right back out again.

"Yuck! This is disgusting! What is this?"

"Do you remember that ogre that attacked us?" Majozo asked.

"Yeah, but what- oh..." Beerus said, coming to a sudden realization, as he recalled the shower of flesh that had followed the ogre's sudden detonation.

"I'm sorry, it's the only thing we have right now. Food is very hard to come by around here."

Grimacing, Beerus took another bite of the chunk of meat and managed to choke it down. No matter how awful it was, he still needed something in his stomach. After he had finished with possibly the worst meal of his life (making the military rations he had sampled on Arcosia seem like gourmet by comparison), he turned to address his host.

"You probably have a lot of questions," she said, sitting across from him on a chair made of bones.

"You bet I do! First of all, how did you kill that guy? I've never seen an attack like that before."

"It's my clan's specialty," she said proudly. "The Devilmite beam!"

"Devilmite beam?" Beerus echoed, unfamiliar with the name.

"My clan was originally from Hell," Majozo explained. "Some of my ancestors migrated here to the Makai a long time ago, but I'm the last remaining member of my clan here. Parappas-san decided to take me in, mostly because he was interested in studying my ability. You see, we of the Devil clan are not particularly strong, but we have a unique power that makes us feared. We can magnify the dark and evil thoughts of a person until they overwhelm their body, and literally explode."

"Really?" Beerus asked, intrigued now. "So this works on anyone with evil thoughts?"

"Yes," Majozo confirmed. "Even the slightest trace of dark intentions is enough to doom a victim."

"So it would even work on Kadab then!"

"Well, I suppose... but he's well aware of my clan's ability. In practice, he would never let it hit him."

"I guess you would be too slow. Can you teach it to me? I bet I could hit him with it!"

"I don't think so... it's a unique ability belonging solely to the Devil clan."

"Well, that disappointing," Beerus said, slumping back in his chair.

"You know, you never even told me your name," Majozo said, changing the subject.

"It's Beerus," the feline coughed, still feeling the effects of his injuries. "I'm, uh... not from around here," he continued, not wanting to reveal that he was on a mission from the Kaioshin.

"Nice to meet you, Beerus-san," Majozo replied.

"I suppose I should thank you for saving my life, along with your friend there," Beerus muttered. "But there's something else I've been wondering about. You call him 'Kadab-sama', but it seems that neither of you are particularly fond of the guy."

"Well of course not!" Majozo shouted, indignant. "After all, it was under his orders that the tree was planted!"

"Tree?" Beerus asked, before remembering the gargantuan plant that dominated the world.

"Yes, the Tree of Might. It was just over four months ago - Kadab-sama sent his underlings to plant the seed here on Forn. In less than a day, the tree had sucked all of the vital nutrients, water, and life energy from our planet. That's why there's no water anywhere, and cannibalism is our only source of food."

"Wait," Beerus coughed again, "four months?"

Majozo nodded.

"How have you all not died of thirst or starved to death yet?"

"I don't understand..." Majozo replied, perplexed.

"What do you mean you don't understand?" Beerus asked, annoyed. "It's a basic fact of life - if you don't get enough to eat and drink, you die."

"Is that what it's like where you're from?"

"That's what it's like where everyone's from!"

"Not here, or in Hell. Demons and devils don't die from lack of food or water - but we do suffer from it."

"Huh, sounds like a fate worse than death to me," Beerus muttered. "I don't get it, though. Kadab's your ruler, right? Why would he torture his own subjects like this?"

"For the fruits, of course."

Beerus scowled at the demon girl. Her habit of acting like he should already know all of this stuff was beginning to grate on his nerves.

Quickly realizing her mistake, Majozo continued: "All of the nutrients and energy absorbed from the planet have to go somewhere, right? The Tree of Might concentrates it all into a small number of mystical fruits. Each fruit has a good amount of the entire planet's energy - Kadab-sama is harvesting them for himself and his soldiers, to increase their power."

"These fruits sound like exactly what I need," Beerus said, becoming excited. "I bet eating one of them could restore me to my full strength, and then some! Then it will be time for round two with that bastard Kadab!"

"That's a lot easier said than done," Majozo cautioned him. "First you'd have to climb to the top of the tree - it's a long way up. And even if you make it there, the fruits are guarded by a squadron of elite demon soldiers, led by the Makaioh Azazel-sama."

"Makaioh, eh? That's weaker than a Makaioshin, right?"

"Yes, but-"

"Then he shouldn't be any problem for me!" Beerus bragged, standing up and assuming a showy pose. A split-second later though, he gasped in pain as his chest wound began aching, and collapsed back into his chair.

"I don't think you're in any shape to fight Azazel-sama and his troops right now..." Majozo observed.

Beerus groaned.

"Maybe you should talk to Parappas-san, he knows some useful magic."

"Yeah, thanks for the tip."

Slowly pulling himself back to his feet, Beerus lumbered over to the door through which the short, blue wizard had earlier disappeared.

It wasn't long before he found Parappas, laboring over a pile of scrolls, candles, and pots and beakers full of bubbling, churning, smoking liquids.

"Hey, um, Parappas-san?" Beerus hesitantly greeted him.

"What do you want?" the wizard snapped, taking out a magnifying lens to more closely examine the writing on a particular scroll.

"Majozo-chan and I are working on a plan to take down Kadab, she said your magic could help."

"Hah!" Parappas snorted in anger. "I will be the one to overthrow the tyrant Kadab, not any other!"

"Are you serious, old man?" Beerus said, approaching the wizard. "You don't look particularly tough to me. I bet I could beat you even in my current state."

"Fool!" Parappas shouted, turning to face the feline for the first time since he had entered the room. "I will be the mastermind behind Kadab's downfall, but the instrument of my triumph shall be none other than Majin Buu!"

"Majin who?"

"Majin Buu! A legendary demon who has appeared periodically throughout history to spread terror and destruction throughout the universe. No one has ever been able to control him before, but, once my research is completed, I shall be the first!"

"Haven't you been working on this for several centuries now, with hardly any progress?" Majozo interjected, having just appeared in the doorway.

Parappas growled at her. "Even if I expire, my successors will carry on my research! If not I, then one of my descendants will be the first to control Majin Buu, and then the very universe will tremble before our power!"

"Yeah, good luck with that," Beerus said dismissively. "But I'm kind of hoping for a faster solution."

"Get in line then," the wizard said, returning to his work. Beerus groaned. He could tell that this wasn't going to be easy.

Note: Sorry that this chapter is mainly exposition with little action, I have to establish some plot stuff. There will be more action next chapter, I promise you.

Don't you think this would be better on a site like FF.net? It'll easier to read, access and tell when there's updates? Just curious

I know, I wasnt meaning to single you out in particular, this was more of a general statement. I was thinking we should have a single fanfic thread, where people can post the links to their stories, and then we talk about them. Or that could get too cluttered. Idk lol

Well, one of the reasons this "Fan-Created Works" subforum exists is so that people can make individual threads for their projects. The "Fan Works Explosion" sticky is sort of a megathread for all fan projects/content, but nowadays people usually just post art there.

I imagine it would get confusing trying to regularly discuss multiple fanfics in one thread, the same way it would be trying to discuss multiple different video games in a single thread.

I'm also disappointed that no one seems to be actually discussing my fanfic, rather than just discussing where to post fanfics...

Thanks!

Since I might as well post something, here are some more name puns:

Lehrdict: Anagram of "eldritch"

Hokiss: Pun on "hocus", as in "Hocus Pocus"

Enarca: Anagram of "arcane"

Urokk: Slightly modified version of the romanization of the Japanese pronunciation of "warlock"

Majozo: Based on Majon, who is Spike the Devilman's unseen sister according to an old Toiyama addendum (the name itself being based on 'Majo', meaning witch), and partially inspired by 'Hitotsume-kozo', a creature from Japanese mythology which is a monster, but also a relatively harmless child.

Parappas: Based on Babidi's incantation "Paparapapa"

Azazel: A fallen angel from Jewish/Christian/Muslim tradition. Somewhat inspired by Lucifer, the villain of the DB movie "Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle", who is also named after a fallen angel.

As you can see, I mainly based the demons' names on the magic/spell theme following from Dabura, Babidi, etc.

Now for place names.

Forn: Partially made to just be a generic sci-fi sounding name, also invokes "forlorn"

Kotts continent: From kotsu, a Japanese word for bone

What are you talking about? This chapter was perfect exposition, and I like how you're putting some of the dragon ball elements in place. :D

I like Majozo's character too :)

Chapter 35

"Come on, old man, it's not like we're asking you to fight Azazel and his directly or anything," Beerus pleaded. "Just use your magic to teleport us to where the fruits are."

"For the last time, no!" The wizard grumbled, not even looking away from his studies. "I can't do that."

"Can't, or won't?" Majozo asked, a hint of challenge in her voice.

Parappas growled. "Either way, it's not going to happen! Now leave me alone! I'm close to making a breakthrough here, I can feel it!"

Majozo sighed, turning her back on the diminutive blue creature. "Forget it, Beerus-san, he's not going to help us."

Beerus, however, was undeterred.

"Come on, isn't there anything that could make you reconsider? What if we helped you with something first?"

"I said no, I-" just then, the wizard paused, looking at his two supplicants for the first time since the conversation had started. "Actually, now that you mention it, there is one favor I might ask..."

"I'm not sure I like the way you said that, Parappas-san," Majozo said nervously. "I hope you don't have anything too dangerous in mind."

"Nothing nearly as dangerous as attempting an assault on the Tree of Might," Parappas countered. Majozo had to admit he had a point there.

"No, it's really quiet simple," the magician continued. "I would like you two to help me test out the new spell I'm working on."

"What kind of spell?" Beerus asked suspiciously. Unfortunately for him, this was the worst kind of question to ask, as the wizard loved it whenever anyone gave him an excuse to expound on his self-declared brilliance.

"It's based on my studies of Majozo's Devilmite Beam. Like that technique, it manipulates the darkness and evil intentions in a person's heart and magnifies them," he began. "But instead of killing them, it binds them to my will, making them my loyal servants! In this state, their auras also become transformed, making them susceptible to additional magical effects. I'm thinking of binding a power-enhancing spell to the primary cantrip, but that's for the future, I first need to refine the-"

"Whoa, hold on old man," Beerus interrupted. "I'm not about to become your slave just to test some damn spell."

"I have no intention of testing it on you," Parappas replied. "I have another target in mind." He raised his hands, and a crystal ball slowly floated up from under a pile of scrolls, landing in his grip. "Observe."

With that, the crystal ball began to glow, and an image soon appeared within it. It displayed a very large, bestial-looking demon, with three pairs of horns and sharp claws, sitting on a makeshift throne that appeared to be made of bones and sinew, while other, smaller demons bowed, trembling before him.

Beerus didn't recognize the scene, but Majozo gasped. "Are you serious, Parappas-san? You're going after Yaban?"

"Of course. He would prove to be a most excellent servant," the sorcerer replied. "Besides, it's not like anyone would miss him," he added with a cackle.

"But wouldn't it be a better idea to go after an easier target first?"

"That was my original plan, but assembling an army of weaklings would be pointless. I want to know that my spell works on the strongest of opposition! Now that I have you two to cover me, I feel confident taking him on. Besides, if we succeed, he can then aid you in your attempt to steal the fruit."

"Hey, would you mind filling me in?" Beerus interrupted. "Who is this Yaban guy anyway?"

"A brutal and powerful demon," Majozo explained. "Even before the tree was planted, he was already infamous here on Forn for his strength and ruthlessness. As soon as the tree sucked the life from our world, there was a power struggle among many of the factions here - a world-spanning war. It only lasted a few weeks, and Yaban and his servants ended up coming out on top. He's an awful tyrant, who rules by fear."

"He declared himself the Warlord of Forn," Parappas continued. "He currently rules over 70% of the planet. He even tried to fight Azazal and his troops for control over the tree early on, but after suffering repeated defeats, he seems to be content with his current little empire. If we could take control of him, he could be a powerful tool for our purposes."

"So what's the plan, exactly?" Beerus asked.

"The spell, in its current form, requires me to be within a kilometer of the intended target," the wizard said. "I'll teleport us just outside of Yaban's stronghold on the south continent. While I work to manipulate his mind, I'll need you two to protect me if any of his servants try to attack."

"Sounds simple enough," Beerus said. His injuries were still severe, and he still had only the smallest fraction of his power back, but he figured he could handle a few demonic thugs.

"I'm still not sure about this, Parappas-san," Majozo said.

"Do you want my help getting the fruit or not?" the wizard asked haughtily. Majozo sighed.

A few minutes later, once they had all made their preparations, Parappas instructed them to stand near him, as he chanted an incantation. Suddenly, without any warning other than the completion of the arcane words, they all found that their surroundings had changed. The sky was still the same color, and the ground was as dry and arid as ever, but there were no familiar landmarks visible.

The trio had appeared in the shadow of a large rock. Parappas slowly levitated above the outcrop to confirm their location. Beerus floated up to follow him, while Majozo was forced to climb after them on foot.

"Just as I planned - Yaban's stronghold!" Parappas announced, pointing towards the massive edifice of stone and bone, looking almost like the carcass of some city-sized monster. Ducking back down behind the rock, the wizard took hold of the crystal ball he had brought along with him.

"Now this next part will require intense concentration, so don't interrupt me," the wizard announced. "And if anyone shows up, make sure to protect me until the spell is complete."

Mumbling another incantation under his breath, an image of Yaban on his throne appeared in the crystal ball, soon followed by many blue points of light which appeared to converge on the demon's head. As Majozo and Beerus watched the image with fascination, the Warlord of Forn suddenly grasped his head and cried out in pain.

"Y-Yaban-sama!" an underling cried. "What's wrong?"

In response, the demon warlord let out an ear-piercing howl, followed by an explosive wave of ki that disintegrated the throne room and everyone else in it. A split-second later, a section of the stronghold's roof exploded outwards with a deafening crash, as Yaban, still screaming in pain, flew straight up into the sky. Several other demons followed him, trying to help their leader against whatever was causing him such distress, but he didn't seem to recognize them as his servants as he began ripping them apart at an incredible speed.

"Is that it? Is he under your control, Parappas-san?" Majozo asked.

"No! No, this isn't right!" the wizard replied, starting to panic. "I managed to amplify his evil desires, but the control component of the spell isn't- no, this shouldn't be-"

Just then, Yaban, having dispatched all of the hapless servants who had attempted to aid him, began randomly throwing ki blasts all over the landscape. One of them impacted near the rock Beerus and co. were hiding behind, releasing a powerful shockwave that nearly knocked Parappas off his feet.

"What's going on, old man?" Beerus asked, as the demon warlord continue to randomly fire off attack after attack.

"The spell failed! He's gone berserk!"

"Just great," Beerus muttered under his breath. "Well, we did what you asked us to, so how about teleporting us back now?"

"No! I can still regain control - I just need some time to-"

"Uh, guys?" Majozo interrupted. "I think he's spotted us!"

Indeed, Yaban had finally stopped randomly spraying the horizon with ki blasts and was now flying directly at the trio.

"Majozo, take him out!" Parappas commanded.

"Right!" the demon girl replied, placing her fingers on her temples as she had when facing the ogre before. Typically, a demon of Yaban's caliber would have recognized the signature pose, realized what was coming and effortlessly dodged it, but in his current state, bereft of all wits and sense, he didn't even seem to notice the pink beam as it enveloped his body.

"Darkness, explode!" Majozo shouted - but, to her shock, nothing happened.

"Darkness, explode!" she tried again, but the warlord, still enveloped in the pink aura of the beam, continued barreling towards them, completely unaffected.

At the last instant before impact, Beerus managed to grab the other two and fly them to relative safety, a few hundred meters away, as the impact of Yaban's body shattered the rock they had been hiding behind, leaving a large crater in its place. As the dust cleared, the uninjured demon continued screaming, attempting to locate the prey that had eluded him.

"I don't understand! Why didn't it work?" Majozo asked, staring at her fingers as if accusing them of betraying her.

"I was worried about this," Parappas muttered. "My manipulation spell and Majozo's Devilmite Beam both work on the principle of expanding the negative thoughts within the target's heart. Although my spell failed to achieve the desired result, it certainly did influence Yaban's evil impulses, and that seems to be interfering with the operation of Majozo's attack."

Majozo turned angrily on the wizard. "You mean you knew this would happen!?"

"It was only a theoretical possibility!" he shouted, raising his hands defensively.

"Can you teleport us out of here, old geezer?" Beerus asked.

"Yes, just give me a minute or so, I need to get my bearings-"

Unfortunately, that was too much to ask for, as Yaban, still lashing out wildly, again spotted the three interlopers and charged them again.

"Well, I guess it's up to me, then" Beerus said, cracking his knuckles. He was in significantly better shape than he had been before - he could now fly and use ki attacks again, for one thing, but he was still far weaker than he would have preferred. As Yaban approached, the feline flew out to meet him and they collided, sending a huge plume of dust up into the air.

Beerus and Yaban exchanged blows, creating a thunderous percussion that echoed throughout the desert. The Nekosei-jin landed a powerful kick to the demon warlord's abdomen, but he retaliated with a slash from his claws that drew blood from Beerus' cheek. Flying upwards to gain some distance, Beerus rained down a few pale, bluish-purple ki blasts, but Yaban emerged from the clouds of dust they created and and nearly took the feline's head off, his blow being dodged only at the last possible moment.

'Dammit,' Beerus thought to himself, as he deflected one of the warlord's ki beams. 'I can't believe this! This guy isn't so tough - if I had my full power, or even the power I had when I first faced Icer, I could wipe him out in an instant. But at the rate things are going, I might actually lose! This is just embarrassing!'

As they continued to clash, however, Beerus soon realized that what he lacked in strength, he could more than make up for in skill. Yaban's movements were fast and vicious, but soon became predictable - under the influence of Parappas' botched spell he was nothing more than a mindless brute, with no finesse or technique whatsoever. Beerus dodged a rapid but clumsy slashing attack, and then retaliated with a combo strike to the demon's chest and head, followed by a roundhouse kick, sending him crashing to the ground.

Undeterred, the demon flew back upwards, only to be met with a point-blank ki attack from his opponent. This attack - a modified version of the Arcosian Imprisonment Sphere he had come up with himself - was something Beerus had been wanting to try for a while now. A glowing white aura encapsulated the warlord, which Beerus immediately detonated by clenching his fist. Yaban, stunned by the shock of the explosion, fell back towards the ground.

Beerus realized that this was his chance - if he didn't give his enemy time to recover, he could end this battle right now. Disappearing with a flash and reappearing right as Yaban hit the ground, Beerus channeled all of the power he could muster into an orange-red ki beam, taking the demon off-guard and completely destroying him.

Panting with effort, the feline warrior collapsed to the ground.

"That was amazing, Beerus-san! You defeated Yaban!" Majozo shouted, running out to meet him, with Parappas following close behind.

"Don't praise me," the feline groaned. "The fact that it took so much effort just goes to show how weak I've become," he said.

Just then, he felt a light smack on his forehead from Parappas.

"What the hell was that for, old man?" Beerus asked, annoyed.

"You vaporized his body," the wizard said simply.

"So?"

"So - now what are we going to eat?"

Beerus suddenly looked embarrassed - he had forgotten that cannibalism was the only reliable source of food on this Kaioshin-forsaken planet.

"Come now, let's return home. We should begin preparations for the attack on the Tree of Might."

"You mean you're going to help us, Parappas-san?" Majozo asked. "Even though your spell didn't work?"

"Of course. I'm a man of my word. Now gather around me."

He began speaking an incantation, and then, just as suddenly as they had appeared, the trio vanished.

Story is coming along very well. The characters keep the DBZ element with their attitudes. Although I do have a question is beerus still alive or is he dead at this point?
