Super's own content isn't focused on advertising any specific product, at least so far. Remaking these movies even goes directly against that, since in these 30 or so episodes they won't introduce any important new characters or transformations that can be used for merchandising.

A franchise focused series, especially from Toei, would be a direct tie in with all the merchandising and games. We'd see something like SSJ4 Gohan debuting in the show right alongside his Heroes promotion because the marketing/merchandising team wanted to promote it, and then the tv show's writing team would need to fit him there somehow. The story itself would need to be paced to match those promotions and releases, and decisions from the marketing/merchandising/game side would have direct influence on the route taken by the show. It's how the Yokai Watch anime works, or for Toei, the Pretty Cure series (the live action Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series also work in a similar way).

Pokemon is kind of different from them, since although it advertises some content to a point (new game with new region? New anime season in new region! New legendary revealed? New movie focused on that legendary at the same time!), the actual flow and many characteristics of the anime are very different from the other products (like how Black & White pushed for older characters in the games, but the anime went out of its way to keep Ash as the protagonist and specifically state that he still was 10 years old).

Doctor. wrote:If we use Pokémon as an example, I wouldn't mind seeing Super as the equivalent to the current long-running Pokémon anime, and then some DB Heroes and Xenoverse anime spin-offs functioning as an equivalent to Pokémon's Mega Evolution specials and the Origin OVAs, with the yearly films on the side as well. Seems like too much work for Toei though, especially with all the other projects they already have.
Toei Animation would make an animated series happen if Shueisha, Bandai and Fuji TV wanted it to happen. No amount of projects would keep that from happening.

I don't want DBS to be a long-running series merely for marketing and advertising purposes like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh (even though I'm a great fan, I dislike most spin-offs after GX)

DBS has to end someday

Of course it'll have an ending but I don't think it'll be as soon as some people think it'll be.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Dragon Ball has already long-since held the role of an evergreen brand meant to be eternal, so most of the most damning elements of a merchandised-focused franchise are already there. Incorporating that into the animated series a little more wouldn't be that big a deal.

There's nothing I like from DBH or Discross though, and DB was never that type of series during its run. I don't mind it in Precure, because Precure has always been that way, but I don't want that for Super. Some people at Shueisha must agree because they gave us Super instead of a DBH series.

So here's a question:
How much of Whis' skill is legitimate skill and how much is just him reverting time and knowing the pattern they're going to attack in? Lol

I'd be hesitantly curious and would likely check out a potential 'Dragon Ball Heroes'-esque series if we were to get one, but I'd prefer it if it were still only a 'side' thing. I certainly wouldn't want that to be the future of all further material and we never get stuff set in the actual original universe anymore.

I don't know about a series, but I would sure love to receive the One Piece treatment and get a few specials once in a while. Show the fight of the Kaioshins against Boo, tell Jaco's story and expand the galactic patrol. Mr.Satan 24th Tenkaichi Budokai win. So much stuff that could be fun.

Oh I've been on board for that sort of idea for ages it feels like now, so it's great to see someone else have the same idea.

Heck, it's worked well enough for Lupin the 3rd. A yearly special, especially character history inspired ones, would be a great way to give us little snippets of material we wouldn't get otherwise out of the series.

TV special's and/or OVA centered around other unexplored characters would be indeed awesome. Especially with the new tidbits that Toriyama have given about Dr Gero. Now that is a backstory that really needs to be animated and expanded upon.

I would have much, much preferred getting specials like that than anime adaptations of films still fresh in my mind.

Those kind of side-story specials would be awesome, yeah. The great thing is there's potential in basically any character and time period.

While I agree that Super should not over stay it's welcome. But the series was always made for marketing and advertising purposes. The 90's movies are made to promote the show. GT would have gone on for 100 episodes or more if it was not failure.

I'm still not sold on the idea that we'll get to go on for more than a year because I don't have enough faith in Toei. I'll be surprised and impressed if Super gets to continue after the Uni 6 arc and we have new arcs regularly like a normal long running shounen show.

I would be okay if Super ends in 2017 or 2018 then they could do another Dragon Ball afterwards. It would be funny if Super is our last DB show and we end up getting AF type of rumors for a 5th DB show

Oh I would definitely keep watching/buying stuff if they keep going like they've been going and we do end up getting new arcs after Uni 6. I really enjoy my weekend Super episode. If they didn't have my attention before they certainly did after that "Vegeta dives, catches, and then princess-carries Gokû for almost 2 minutes". That shouldn't have even baited me as much as it did, but it did; it completely stunned me silent for a short while. I am genuinely curious about where things are going this weekend.

I think Super's goal, while entirely new content doesn't start, is just to keep the momentum. The movies gave Bandai a notable boost in merchandise sales, and according to their estimates that is expected to rise until next year, which makes sense given the amount of goodies that are coming out, more than the number tied to the feature films. Including releases exploring the SSG/SSGSS images.

But now that it was mentioned, with the money Dragon Ball started generating for Bandai again these days, it really would make sense to have it "franchised", like Pretty Cure, Sentai or Rider. It's making more than most of their other brands.
It's risky, though..would the audiences accept new series and stories entirely focused on different characters?

I wouldn't; it'd be my cue to retire from following the franchise. I'm mainly still here because I love watching Gokû and Vegeta antics. ^^; At this point in the run a new cast would be too much like somebody getting to animate their OC fanfic to me. I'm just not interested.

Precure is different for me because it's been franchised from the start. I've known going in that it fully reboots each year, and I've been following it since mid-way through Fresh. I enjoy Precure's yearly reboot, because it's not just the cast that's brand new each time, it's the whole world and how it works, the art design changes (look at the jumps from Fresh to HeartCatch to Suite). If there's something you're not a fan of that year, no worries; it starts brand new the following February. I like that. Right now I really miss the rainbow color scheme of Yes! and Smile (having a pink/orange/yellow/green/blue team. So tired of pink/yellow/blue/red-or-purple); I hope we get a new green cure next year.
