Despite his selfishness and perhaps somewhat ulterior motives or more than one reasoning, I still think Goku in my opinion.

Master Roshi appears to have a sense of honour while in combat. He's a bit of a pervert and showman, but when it comes down to it he's a righteous and honourable man who can appreciate the power of his opponent while relenting when he understands that he's been beaten. Goku would be up there as well but his willingness to endanger populations for the sake of appeasing his personal desire for a challenge besmirches the nobility of his character. In some respects, Goku is at least partially responsible for how bad things get out of hand in the later arcs.

Trunks and Krillin

Trunks had a horrible life, lost everything, and wanted Goku to help him make things right, once he gave him the cure, his future was not restored, he still came back to help Goku protect a future that was not his, and only came back to his world after he had ensure the other one was safe again.

Krillin is the definition of a BRO, the dude is fucking selfless and never even complains (disregard badly written movies) he was not terribly outclassed in DB, but in DBZ he was outclassed horribly and still showed up, he basically helped everyone on the android and Cell arc, even Vegeta nursing him back to health with a sensu bean. Atleast he got a hot wife for all his troubles.

Gohan. Unlike Goku/Vegeta he doesn't fight for sport, but to genuinely protect those around him.
