New DBZ movie update...

Post by landoku » Wed Jan 31, 2007 8:38 pm

Hey, Heres some new info on the DBZ live action movie. IGN.com mailbag...

http://movies.ign.com/mail/index.html

I'm highlighted in bold print...
I've heard Twentieth Century Fox was making a live action adaptation of Dragon Ball Z. Are there still plans for this to happen? Any info on this would be appreciated.

--Scott

PLease Please Please let all the crazy DBZ fans know if there is a live-action Dragon Ball Z movie coming!! I will not stop emailing you guys until u let us know!! (lol sorry if it gets really annoying but please tell us if its on or off!!)

--Mohin

Hey IGN. Do you guys know anything about what's going on right now with the Dragon Ball Z live-action movie? I know Fox has the rights to make it but there hasnt been any official news in a REALLY long time. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.

--Michael

FUNimation

I was just wondering if the DBZ live action movie is still in the works? Thanks.

--Landon

Hey, is the Dragon Ball Z movie coming out or what? We want some info about this. We have been waiting for long time.(years). Plz let us know anything about this movie.

--Asmir

As a long time DBZ fan I have to say that I'm frightened by the prospect of a live action movie since they tend to really screw these things up, but I would like to know what's happening with the project. Is it completely dead or is there still a chance it could happen?

--Scott

Hey everybody,

While I think most of these emails came from the same guy via multiple accounts, it's a legitimate question nevertheless. There has simply been no activity on this project since June 2004 when Ben Ramsey was hired to write the screenplay. IGN has inquired with Fox as to the status of the film project. As soon as we've heard back, we'll let you all know!

Meanwhile, FUNimation Entertainment has digitally remastered in high definition and restored the entire series. The DVD sets will be available February 6.

One question: Why are people so assured that a crappy live action movie would kill the franchise? Mario had a horrible movie, but people still played the game and are anxiously waiting for the next one this fall. Mortal Kombat, Daredevil, Street Fighter, and countless other adaptions have come across, but I don't think the primary media has suffered. If anything would it casta brighter light on it and bring in more people?

I bet FOX will answer with this:

"Although we have no current plans for Dragonball Z, we will be sure to let you know when or if we do."
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

There's probably going to be a movie in 1000000000 years.

We should get a CGI team and make one. Right now.

Hey, at least this is something. I haven't heard of the live action DBZ movie in years, so at least this shows someone out there is still interested. I'd say CGI would be nice, simply because I just can't imagine live action DBZ looking very good at all visually if attempts to remain accurate w/ the manga/anime are made.

You do realise that Live Action and CGI are different things. Plus there were too many live action movies in 2006 and I don't really want to see another anytime soon even if it is Dragonball Z.

The one question that I have are simple ones: "Well is it going to be a DB film or a DBZ film? One of the sagas or will it be somthing like Dead Zone with unknown actors and Bruce Faulkener (sp?) Music? I think we should let this movie thing just die a natural death until we see somthing concrete like a preview or somthing.
