Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
It's probably a straight upscale of the original 1-inch broadcast tapes. Nothing special.

Dragon Box
TokyoMX
the original broadcast upscale seems more sharpen than the dragon box (without hd screen we cannot be sure but it seems) have original colors and less crop so it will be good to have these HD version

'ドラゴンボール tokyomx site:shoutry.com',
Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
Looks like the same tapes that BS FUJI use for their DBZ rebroadcasts. Having seen them in person, they're nothing special, and not a touch on the Dragon Boxes.

If these are HD scans, I wouldnt mind a bluray looking like this at all. Hopefuly we can find some shots used in level 1.1-2.2 to see what the difference is

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
the first screens is not a tokyo mx screenshot bu it seems to be a cels from the opening (totally uncropped) but others are just upscale like ajay said but it seems good upscale
it cannot be true HD it's an upscale but it seems to be good and less cropped than multigen footage

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
I thought so too. If we can find some larger shots. Any idea if it's the same that Animax used? At this point I'd take anything for DBZ in 4x3 lol
On a side note here is FUNi's old DVDs desaturated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASv-74L0b48 As much as I like the Dragon Box I love these colors

Wouldn't mind a DBZ 4x3 Blu-ray upscaled release if it looked like that. It'd always be way better than Funimation's "wonderful" remasterisations.

Like shit. They didn't keep the original audio tapes.

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
So you guys are saying that the intro is less cropped than the Dragon Boxes, but use old video tapes that apparently have more cropping than the Dragon Boxes. Can somebody compare this versions intro with the Level sets intro, as I've been told that the Level sets have less cropping than the Dragon Boxes.

Wait, the Dragon Boxes were cropped?
Looking for these rare items/information:
Any information or recordings pertaining to Dragon Ball Z's syndicated run on WAWB
Any information regarding the stations that carried the origin Dragon Ball in the USA
Dragon Box (any deals would be nice)
Shonen Jumps with Dragon Ball in them

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
Every release is cropped to some extent to hide the rounded edges of the film. That's all they're referring to:

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
According to Funimation's 16x9 releases there was more footage so in a way the Dragon Boxes were a bit "cropped", but at the very least it still had way more footage than the widescreen editions of Funi. The best way to show all of its footage would be in high definition on Blu-ray but just like the German Kazé DVD from the films Fusion Reborn / Wrath of the Dragon was completely uncropped in fullscreen, it surely wasn't the best video quality available by any chance (the French and then Funimation releases look much better) but for the sake of seeing everything was quite a treat. Well, maybe it's not totally uncropped because the Dragon Boxes of the Movies in this case probably has some extra footage on the sides.gokaiblue wrote:Wait, the Dragon Boxes were cropped?
Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
Another question about this broadcast. Does it have more accurate colors than the Dragon Box? Are they more accurate than other releases? If so, somebody needs to record all of these! If not, record them anyway! It's interesting to see different video sources.

Re: TOKYO MX Dragon Ball Z footage
They seem to be aged as well leaning more toward yellow then red. Color wise they don't seem too different than FUNi's sources (just without higher contrast and saturation) However, I'd take these copies straight to even DVD any day I really like the look of themDanfun64 wrote:Another question about this broadcast.
