What Dragonball game tells the entire story best?

Post by masenko » Thu Feb 08, 2007 9:14 am

I've been a long time DragonBall fan. The games are usually pretty well done but they always lack in the storytelling department. Whenever I play games like Budokai or Super DBZ with friends, they are always completely oblivious to the storyline and what's going on. So here's my question...what game covers the entire DragonBall story (Manga-wise, screw GT), that means "Goku meets Bulma" to "Goku kills Buu", the most efficiently?

... Is there a game that covers the entire story? At all?

There isn't one that does that.

Budokai 1 is probably the best story-wise, though that only reaches up to the Cell saga.

Sparking! and Sparking! Neo go very in depth, fight wise in so far as 'who fights who', but they only cover Z and GT.

I say that Sparking Neo covers it the most, but that my opinion.

Well, I realize now that there isn't a game that covers the story entirely. So what games cover their respective arcs the most efficiently?

Budokai 1 was okay but it was just dumbed down versions of the episodes. I really just want to play a game that rightfully shows the entire Piccolo Daimao arc.

Well, Sparking Neo is definitely one of the best in my opinion, and budokai 1 was pretty good as well.
But I think that "Idainaru Son Goku Densetsu" for the pc engine also captures the story essence very well, since Gohan is telling Goten about his fathers adventures, and it starts with Tao Pai Pai up to Cell.

Buu`s Fury wasnt bad (although a little easy), But i`d go for the old Nes and Snes (Famicom) games and especially the card based ones because they really would drag on forever.

TLOG II was good as well.

BDKai1 did a much better job of 2 & 3.

Haven't played sparking but plan to soon.

"DragonBall:Legends" for PS1 captures good events from Saiyan saga to the end of Buu saga. So I'll say that it would be the best timeline game, in my opinion.

The entire Legacy of Goku series is very fun and stays pretty true to the story. But, they are easy to beat.

Budokai 1 is the most in-depth though.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

If we're counting all systems, then Advance Adventure for GBA tells the early DragonBall very well, from what I've heard. I plan to pick it up first time I see it used and have the cash.

Well, considering the Ps2 hasn't released ONE game with a valid original DB story mode, I'd suggest tracking down the Super Gokuden games for the SNES for a true way to experience the original DB story. With all of DBZ and GT, Sparking! NEO/Budokai Tenkaichi 2 would definitely be your best bet IMO. Though you would have to keep in mind, certain elements stray from the intended story, such as movie 6 ending in a premature fashion and the fact you don't get to play Garlic Jr.'s Dead Zone origin. Not to mention, the GT Shadow Dragon ending is an alternate ending all together, where
.

For a game focusing purely on the manga...well, there's always Legendary Super Warriors for the GameBoy Color, or Budokai 1 if you're up for only Saiyan Saga-Cell Games.
