Most useful ability IRL?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Most useful ability IRL?

Post by Polyphase Avatron » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:29 am

I know this has probably been done before many times, but I think this version is different enough. If you could have any one power/ability from DB IRL, which one would you pick?

Rules:

- Unique/specialized abilities only. No standard abilities that nearly everyone has (super strength, super speed, flight, etc.)
- You're still you, you just get the ability. So you're still only as strong/fast/tough as you are IRL, unless your ability specifically changes that.
- We're looking for the abilities that would be the most useful in everyday life. So stuff like blowing up planets or traveling to other galaxies are bad choices.

Let me evaluate some of the pros and cons of some various abilities.

1. Whis' time rewind

Pros: Lets you undo mistakes, like a Ctrl-Z for real life

Cons: Only goes back up to 3 minutes, can't be used many times in succession (has a long 'cooldown' time)

2. Healing technique (Dende, Buu, etc.)

Pros: Cut down on doctor visits and doctor bills, you might be able to start a cult

Cons: Probably won't work against wounds that are too severe, or things like diseases and old age

3. Teleportation (Shunkan Idou or Kaikai)

Pros: Would allow you to make trips much quicker and save a lot of gas money

Cons: Might freak people out, the former would require ki sensing

4. Ginyu's body switch

Pros: Could be used as a last resort to escape a dangerous situation, you could potentially become immortal by continuously switching into younger bodies

Cons: Kind of an evil thing to do to someone

5. Buu's henka beam

Pros: Never go hungry again, you could save the environment and feed the hungry by turning garbage/pollution/nuclear waste into food, and probably make a lot of money doing so

Cons: Could get you labeled a freak, might require having a head tentacle

6. Babidi's Mind Control

Pros: Get an army of loyal followers

Cons: Only works on people with evil in their hearts, using it would make you pretty evil too

7. TIen's multi-form

Pros: Split up and get 4 times as much work done

Cons: Power is split evenly, so heavy labor with this could be difficult, you could be labeled a freak if people see you using it

8. Guldo's time freeze

Pros: Very useful for escaping tight situations or catching that bus you just missed

Cons:Only lasts as long as you can hold your breath, people might be scared or consider you a freak if they saw you appear to be jumping around instantly

Of these I'd probably choose the healing, but what about other techniques?

This one, no contest. Car doesn't work? No problem! Just teleport to some oddball place a little bit off to the side of the place you're trying to go to (to avoid the risks of people seeing you suddenly appear out of nowhere) and there you go.

Kai Kai would probably be more useful due to not needing to sense someone's ki (which would also make it easier to avoid being spotted by random strangers who'd freak out at the randomly-appearing person.)

Whis' rewind, healing, and Buu's beam (which wouldn't require a tentacle, if you go by Uub's use of it after fusing with Buu in GT anyway) would also be pretty nice to have. Mutli-form and time freeze too, depending on the situation.

either instantaneous movement or Buu's regeneration

the former would be great for just seeing the world, going wherever I like

the latter would be great because you'd be immortal and invincible since nothing that actually exists is powerful enough to overwhelm Buu's regeneration ability. it would be good enough that you could become a bonafide superhero even if you were out of shape, you can stop anyone if nothing they can do can hurt you.

Whis's time rewind would also be nifty, and Hit's tokitobashi would be amazing given that you could improve it like Hit does. it would just be a far superior version of Guldo's time freeze.

Buu's food beam or whatever would be really great but I feel like I'd get fat as hell if I could turn stuff into whatever food I wanted whenever I wanted

Supreme Kai's Teleporting would be best.

You could go anywhere, at any time, for free, instantly. You wouldn't have to save up for Holidays because you could just go immediately.

You wouldn't even need to work. It'd be easy to rob a bank or a Jewellery store and zip to and back from home with bags of it before the police could even get there.

Wouldn't need to think about doctors bills or having extra pairs of hands for work when you've got your own island.

Not to mention just the safety of it. Any potential trouble you could find yourself in you could easily get away from. Someone comes at you with a gun? Teleport behind them, grab their shoulder, teleport to the middle of the Antarctica, leave him there, teleport home, know he'll be dead within the hour from freezing to death, punk.

I think clothes beam is the most useful ability.

You're still limited by your RL endurance. If you took enough damage/exerted yourself too much you wouldn't have enough stamina to regenerate, just like Buu was having trouble against Kid Buu, etc. So you would still have to be careful.

2. Healing technique (Dende, Buu, etc.)

Pros: Cut down on doctor visits and doctor bills, you might be able to start a cult

Cons: Probably won't work against wounds that are too severe, or things like diseases and old age

Pros: Get an army of loyal followers

Cons: Only works on people with evil in their hearts, using it would make you pretty evil too
Pros - Almost everyone has a little evil in their hearts so can control everyone, become invincible

7. TIen's multi-form

Pros: Split up and get 4 times as much work done

Cons: Power is split evenly, so heavy labor with this could be difficult, you could be labeled a freak if people see you using it
Pros - Get a twin to compete with - in games, sports etc.

Buu's regeneration or, more broadly, Buu's body.

With just his regeneration, you would be safe pretty much in all situations. It would be very hard to hurt you and very hard to kill you.

But if you had his body, you would basically be invincible (unlimited regeneration and stamina, no need to breathe, able to freely mold your body to fit anywhere and have any shape you want ...). That means that you basically would be able to escape from anywhere, live anywhere, recover from anything... The only question is if Buu's body is immune to poisons, deceases, biological agents and those kinds of stuff, because if it is, I think you really would be invincible, you wouldn't need his power, just his body.

Majin Boo's regeneration is without a doubt the most useful ability. You pretty much guaranteed to survive damn near anything that's thrown your way.

Mind control because I have villain tendencies.

If I hadn't, Teleportation is my other choice.

If i pick teleportation, does the ability to sense ki come with it? I obviously can't already do that IRL since ki is not real.

Buu's Candy Beam is basically an excuse to do whatever you want. You'll never want for anything ever again.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

You think you would be left alone if you had some of these abilities?

Besides, anyone can get robbed, or be on an accident, or have the bad luck of coming across a lunatic. That only has to happen once for our life to be in danger. Someone with buu's regeneration or buu's body would just laugh at all that.

Kibitoshin's "No-ki-needed-to-lock-onto" teleportation. Let's see how well that Big-Bang Kamehameha serves you when the plane's engines you're traveling on suddenly fails at 20,000 ft.
