Who drew Super Saiyan the best? (Anime)
Who drew Super Saiyan the best? (Anime)
Many artists have worked on the Dragon Ball Z anime. They all had different styles on how they drew things and many were capable creating their own unique flair. The Super Saiyan form specifically had many different looks to it in the series. Focusing on the anime specifically, which artist drew it the best in your opinion? Masaki Sato hands down for me.

This thread will benefit from people who can tell specific animator's styles better than me, but Movie 12's scenes of Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Super Saiyan Vegeta fighting Janemba are always some of my favorites that I distinctly recall.

I'm not sure of the names, but there are times that they look really, really cool.

(The original, of course; this is just to provide an example)

Yes, some of the pictures are small, but you know what they're pictures of. I love the style of the first three. I like the shape of the face and nose. Even the mouth looks good. Kind of like Goku on Namek right before he transforms into a Super Saiyan. I just love the shape of everything. But I think that's how they looked in the manga too, so it was just recreating. I think it's a lot more difficult to recreate that look during a fighting scene or a non-iconic scene. Clearly for iconic shots, the most manga-like adaptation will be done (at least I think). As for the last picture, I just like how they look.
Oh and if we look at Dragon Ball Greatest Legends for PS1, I think everything's drawn perfectly there. There's not one thing that I can look at and go, "No, that's bad." Not like Ultimate Battle 22, anyway. But yeah, I guess that doesn't count.

^ That SSJ3 Goku picture makes all the others seem mediocre. Fantastic art.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

I cried when I first saw this. The others can't even begin to compare to this ultra super mega cool pic of an ultra powered being of otherworldly power.sintzu wrote: Ssj3 Goku

When Shida Naotoshi doesn't have his drawings filtered through Yamamuro Tadayoshi I think he pulls off one of the best Super Saiyan 3 Gokuus. The sharpness and fullness of his lines for eyes, nose and musculature really bring out an intensity in his animation. Pay attention to how Gokuu's forehead is used to display his emotions.

Just not the guy who drew Episode 170. Derpified Goku is not OK.
(Note: I think it's 170, or around that episode. Not sure.)

Mostly everything done by Yamamuro back in Z and the guys at Studio Cockpit.
BTW does anyone here know if we have a thread, where there are pics of all the Super Saiyan forms by all the different animators and all the styles they were drawn with back in Z?
I really would want to see that and before going digging myself, maybe someone knew of one already, if not that's okay.

I loved how Studio Cockpit animated the SSJ forms:

Hell, all of their work on DBZ are the animation highlights of the entire franchise.

Same dude! They really made the hair wild and free. They gave it strands while also keeping it long. I also really love the blur they put on the auras. It's like steam and heat radiating off of the Saiyans which makes them look like utter Gods!Lord Beerus wrote:I loved how Studio Cockpit animated the SSJ forms:

I had forgotten that parts of this episode was very well animated. At the time I watched it I was disappointed by the episode, but maybe I should watch it again.JulieYBM wrote:It's from One Piece Episode #590.Xeztin wrote:This is great this looks great! is this a cut from BOG the movie? or DBZ?JulieYBM wrote:https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cmk9TF3UEAAj5DU.jpg:orig

Re: Who drew Super Saiyan the best? (Anime)
Toriko Episode #99 and One Piece Episode #590 were extremely rushed and only had one good animator working on them. Shida Naotoshi's part is the only part that manages to pull off some somewhat cool stuff.sangofe wrote:I had forgotten that parts of this episode was very well animated.
