Sure, it still follows the same basic mold of previous seasons, but the polished animation and camerawork helps make the quest for gym badges and Pokédex entries feel exciting again. Plus, narrative touches like Serena's crush on Satoshi add a little more depth to its storytelling.
Yeah sometimes shows like this really makes you feel disappointed on "how can quality animation been wasted on bad story". Let's be honest The last time Pokemon had story progression was in Johto. After that we get the same re-re-re-re-re-telling of "Shatoshi goes to a new place, catches some pokemon and loses in the tournament". It wouldn't be so bad if Shatoshi had some wins under his belt. Maybe after winning a tournament people would start knowing him.
I feel like pokemon are falling to the op trap.
Op wanted Luffy to be the pirate king (a dream that he doesn't even care to mention nowadays because he changed it to a generic "I want to be free")
Likewise, Shatoshi is not getting any closer to the pokemon master dream. Unless we get a new super tournament in the future with the winner gaining the title
No, the last major piece of progression for Satoshi was during
Diamond & Pearl. He battled his strongest two opponents yet during that series, Shinji (in the franchise's first ever three episode long battle) and Takuto, a trainer with two legendary Pokemon. Satoshi made it to the final four of the Shin'ou League. In the Isshu League Satoshi only made it to the top eight gain, but for the Kalos League Satoshi is now battling in the final round against Alan.
Pocket Monster XY & Z Episode #37 is the first half of Satoshi versus Alan and is entirely key animated by Iwane Masa'aki, one of the key animators for many of the Studio Cockpit episodes of
Dragon Ball Z. Episode #38, airing 18 August 2016, will have Nishitani Yasushi as its animation supervisor and
is bound to be really well animated, too.
Kantou, Jouto and Hou'en had terrible fights on their own, but they're even worse in comparison to the fights since Shin'ou, beginning in 2006.

Animation wise, I really never had any complain about pokemon, it always was consistent, with design changes of course but overall well done
No, Satoshi did not fight Shigeru during the Kantou League. They fought during the Jouto League, but that was in the top sixteen. Satoshi lost in the top eight to Hazuki, from Hou'en. Both fights were pretty terrible.

Anime Pokémon sucks, I drop it after the Battle Frontier, it was all the same lazy stuff over and over agan, but people said the quality has improved in D/P arc, interesting, but I still see that Pokemon anime would be amazing if was like that Adventures (manga), a series with drama, thriller, action, romance, far from being too childish.
Tomioka Atsuhiro took over the role of series composition (series kousei, basically a head writer role) and began writing all of the important episodes. Scheduling became smarter and Asada Yuuji and Iwane Masa'aki began to be put in charge of directing and animating the most important episodes, too. Those three drastically increased the quality of the battles. Tomioka's new rival character for Satoshi, Shinji, introduced a lot of conflict, too. Then there's Hikari's storyline and the Ginga Gang storyline, too.
