Has anyone ever thought of doing a GT Recut?

I personally think, if you cut out all of the bad stuff than GT is a decent series and even enjoyable.


Somehow editing it to be a better series overall.

There's too many problems if you're doing a serious cut. But hell, someone be willing to redraw adult Goku outside of SSJ4 in every frame, or piece him in from DBZ and match him to GT's aesthetic, and redub him, I'd be happy to rewatch GT, warts and all.

Here's a less-than-an-hour post I made on the subject.

One day I'd like to see a fan edit which combined the Super 17 arc and the Shadow Dragon arc, having the events happen simultaneously, which would explain why Goku and Pan went against the dragons by themselves...because the others were too busy fighting the villians from hell. Also, in this fanedit, if Super 17 himself can't be removed, then at least remove the "17 was always meant to be the strongest" nonsense. Dr. Gero saying that the biggest example of being out of character in all of GT...and if there were any other examples they don't even come close.

edit: With the fanedit including Japanese (animax?) audio with the official english subs of course.

Nah. I'm not going to end up like those old fuddie duddies who try to stay up to date with the kids lingo. I'm a 90's kid, I'll sooner look for Jnco apparel then try to use fleek in a sentence, which I regrettably know because my niece used it and I had to know what that was.

I was actually about to mention Kaboom's fic, but I see he's already been here to bring it up, so I'll just point to it as well. It's probably the best re-take on GT we're ever going to get. While GT is worthwhile enough to still be used in the games and stuff, I don't think Toei has any real interest in ever re-visiting it, at least not while they've actively got Toriyama coming up with new stuff for them again.

Editing together the existing animated GT to make it better though...not sure how easy or feasible of a project that would actually be, but I'd be intrigued to check it out at least if someone did take a crack at it. Also wouldn't mind someone eventually working with Kaboom on a good fan-manga version of his fic too, just to get it even more awareness.

For a Recut, what episodes would you cut out? I definitely would take out the Super #17 arc.

Hmm...well, the only problem there though is that the Super 17 arc pretty much kickstarts the Dragons one - without Kuririn's death, they wouldn't have any reason to try using the Dragon Balls again just yet, and discover the balls are cracked and cause the Dragons to come into being. So if you excise that arc, you have to have something else in it's place to get us to that same point - something that would be easy to do in fanfic or doujin form, but in terms of actually cutting episodes? That'd be a little tougher.

I suppose it'd be possible to lop off some of the content of the arc though, reduce it from 7 episodes to fewer - remove some of the non-Goku stuff, and the stuff with him being flung deeper into Hell by Freeza and Cell. There might be a way to overall alter the story to make it a bit better too, but that'd probably also be easier in something retooling GT from the ground up (again like a fic or doujin) than it would be with editing episodes.

I'm reminded of seeing a commentary or documentary or something concerning Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, specifically, the scene where...
[spoiler]Eowyn asks what happened to Aragorn, and Gimli says "he fell." Apparently he had a longer explanation, but it was removed because scenes were changed and rewritten[/spoiler] I wonder if the same thing could happen with the Super 17 arc. I still would like the "Super 17 arc and Shadow Dragons arc happen at the same time, preferably with no Goku going to Hell and no 17 being Gero's favorite nonsense, preferably no Super 17 period" fan edit to occur...somehow...
