What excites me about the Kai recasts being a part of DB Super's English Dub

Post by mecha3000 » Sun Oct 23, 2016 3:47 am

I just realized recently that as a fan of Dragon Ball Z Kai, I'm even more excited for Dragon Ball Super because I prefer Monica Rial's Bulma and Chris Ayres' Frieza over the original voice actors. But think about it - Outside of the new movies, they've never gotten a chance to be more than just recasts. I mean, Rial got a chance to put her stamp on the original DB series with "Curse of the Blood Rubies" along with Colleen Clinkenbeard's take on Goku. But many nostalgic fans just see Rial and Ayres in a negative light simply because they are recasts.

But with Dragon Ball Super, it will be the first time that Monica Rial (Bulma) and Chris Ayres (Frieza) get to LITERALLY become their characters and get to own Dragon Ball Super as THEIR series. No one can compare Rial and Ayres to the old voice actors because DB Super doesn't have a previous dub that nostalgic fans can prefer. So for the first time (Once again, not counting Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F') - Monica Rial and Chris Ayres get to officially own their characters without being compared to the previous cast. Well, I'm sure fans would find a way - But you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Not that anyone likes DB Super's portrayal of Frieza as a whole

I agree, especially on Chris Ayres. So many people are saying they will never watch the Resurrection F arc again, but I'll be Super (yeah I said it  ) excited to see it dubbed just for Ayres doing Freeza. He was born to play that role, and I'd be so happy if Funimation could do a redub of the original Freeza arc (even for a collector's item) to give him that much more time to shine, but it will be nice to see him do another arc in Super. Monica Rial is pretty good too and I look forward to seeing more of her Bulma.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula will be writing

Oh definitely Ayers will soften the blow of rewatching that horrendous arc again. More Ayers can never be a bad thing! :)
