Perhaps DB Super will air on Toonami after all? (CONFIRMED and Final Thoughts)

Post by mecha3000 » Thu Dec 01, 2016 4:16 am

EDIT: So yeah, it's been confirmed that Dragon Ball Super will be airing on Toonami along with Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters. And to sum up my thoughts: I'm actually perfectly okay with this. For the longest, I've been saying that Super should air on Toonami AND A KIDS NETWORK. However, for now - Only Toonami will be getting it. That being said, Toonami also announced Super will air at 8pm FIRST. This satisfies me because when I was a kid - I watched Naruto from 9-10pm on Saturdays. So, now - A new generation of kids can get the same experience an hour earlier and NO PARENT can complain, "The show said Mr. Satan and Hell" because the show will be airing on Adult Swim - which gives Super a get-out-of-jail free card. It's also PERFECT because Super is meant for old and new fans, but recaps the Buu Saga (which kids can now watch with Kai). Well, now - Kids (as well as new fans) can stay up OR record the series to watch it the next day if they don't end up watching it at midnight. This is perfect because now they'll experience the Buu Saga and have a better understanding of it while simultaneously watching Dragon Ball Super.

So, basically - I'm on board the Toonami hype train now and it's especially nice seeing everyone's childhood returning. Still, I'm not changing my thoughts. I said it'd be nice for Super to air on both Toonami and a kids network, which I speculated to be Nickelodeon (although I admitted Nick has cringe content). However, now that we have the basic cable confirmation well out of the way - It's possible that in the future, Super could air on Disney XD like Kai aired on Nicktoons and Toonzai. However, it's probably for the best we keep it on Toonami for consistency and simplicity. Still, with the toy deal - It's jarring that Super will not be on a kids channel after all. Also, it will only be airing twice a week instead of what a channel like Disney XD might've been able to do. However, I'm glad it will be airing ONE MORE TIME than I originally thought it would be airing so I'm still HYPED right now. 2017 will be the year of Dragon Ball in North America and I can't wait!!!

ORIGINAL POST (before Toonami confirmation):

1. Okay, for all I know - This topic might be moved to the Funimation Announcement Thread, but I'll still try making a new one because I want to reiterate my thoughts on where Super will air. I've made two separate threads about Super's possibilities of airing on either Disney XD or Nickelodeon. Disney XD has recently acquired ALL of Pokemon and its movies, but it's also not a cable channel. As for Nickelodeon, I feel like this is the only option that makes sense if you want to market towards kids due to the upcoming Bandai toy deal and also - Miraculous Ladybug (a co-Toei production also with a Bandai toy deal) aired on Nick this year.
2. But now, I've kind of changed my thoughts. Mainly due to this tweet from Chris Sabat: https://twitter.com/VoiceOfVegeta/statu ... 7824456705. The edits Sabat describes seem more extreme than I thought Nick would do (especially since he claims he hopes it's never used), but since Nick is basic cable rather than digital like Nicktoons - The edits might have to be more extreme. Another fan also brought up the fact that although Funimation recorded an edited version of DB Super - They might just be doing this IN CASE it airs on a kids network (which means it might not even end up on a Nick or another kids network). I'm not against an edited version because we always still have the uncut version, but I don't feel like hearing purists complain about the edited TV dub confusing fans (I admit it would cause confusion among younger viewers though - Super Saiyan Red OVER Super Saiyan God?) so yeah.....
3. This brings me to my final point: Perhaps, Toonami will air DB Super once Kai's Cell Arc ends - which sucks for me considering I really want to see Kai's Buu Saga. Still, I understand Kai had its time with 1.0 and most fans simply don't care about it anymore because Funimation/Toei kind of dropped the ball with it and now it's too late for it to shine like it could have if it aired or was released RIGHT AFTER Kai 1.0 ended (Perhaps not in Japan considering the earthquake had just happened, but Kai 2.0 should've been aired and released in the U.S sooner and before Super was announced - BUT THIS IS WHY I THOUGHT KAI 2.0 WOULD AIR ON TOONAMI BECAUSE THE TV DEAL WAS HOLDING IT BACK). Honestly, I always thought it'd be nice for Kai 2.0 to air on Toonami and eventually air Super WHILE a kids network airs Super first. But looking back, Kai's history really is a clusterfuck.
4. We'll find out soon enough about Super and perhaps Kai 2.0 - But yeah, I still don't get what's the point of a toy deal if it ONLY would air on Toonami. But I've heard fans bring up the point of adults also collecting toys, so I don't know......

As much as I hate the overkill edits Sabat described, shouldnt this be MORE evidence for an edited airing than LESS?

Sure I do hope that if its so edited for Funimation to just go with Toonami. But I still hope for a reasonably edited airing on some other channel.

Also, hi mecha3000 I missed ya!

Hello, Cure - Nice to converse with you again! But yeah, I agree - This seems to be pointing even more so towards a kids network (because let's not forget that Nick might not even edit it that badly. Funimation might just be editing it extremely regardless of where it might air so it can be prepared if a network requests the edits). Also, Nick might not even have a problem with the word "god" - But let's say they want the "Hercule" name change, which of course they would want. Funimation can simply edit the edited dub where gods are not mentioned and instead INCLUDE mention of gods, but keep Hercule's name change.

Long story short: The extremely edited dub might just be a precaution on Funimation's part (which is why Sabat is saying he hopes it's never used). So, at the end of the day: Nick could still air an edited dub that can satisfy ALL fans and perhaps even mention death like Nicktoons did (from what I recall).

However, at this point: I can't say for certain where Super will air. All I can say is that if Funimation and Toei are going for a basic cable kids channel: Then I think we can safely scratch out DISNEY CHANNEL (seems more focused on TEEN crap) and CARTOON NETWORK (seems more focused on TEEN Titans Go crap) off the list - which leaves NICKELODEON as the only option that would make any logical sense (despite the network's own shortcomings despite having some fairly good shows like The Loud House). Besides, I would prefer for Super to air on a kids network to gain new fans RATHER than just appeal to the older nostalgia crowd with Toonami only.

I hate to sound suspicious, but I think Cure Dragon and Mecha are one and the same, one person trying to stir up conversation for a topic. I've noticed this in several other threads too. Anywho, continue on.

I sure hope it airs on Toonami. Dragon Ball just seems more at home there. Honestly, I don’t really care if it airs on a kids network as long as it doesn't interfere with Toonami airing it. However, if it does air on a kids network, I feel that will be the case.
Looking for these rare items/information:

Any information or recordings pertaining to Dragon Ball Z's syndicated run on WAWB
Any information regarding the stations that carried the origin Dragon Ball in the USA
Dragon Box (any deals would be nice)
Shonen Jumps with Dragon Ball in them

Toonami just announced on their Official Facebook page, that JoJo has a marathon on 24/12, then Kai on 31/12.
With this being said, is it safe to assume either they start from episode 1, or go straight into the Buu Arc?.
Apparently 98 is due to air the 17th, then the JoJo marathon on the 24th, what is for sure, is that it seems as though Super won't be taking Kai's current slot - unless they simply re-air the last few Cell Arc episodes again.

I SWEAR (The caps are for emphasis, not yelling.) that I'm NOT Mecha. I guess I deserve it for the time I confused another member for a troll. But I am my own person. I'm not even offended by the accusation. I love mecha3000 and he does almost the exact same things I would do and even thinks the same in many things.

I do warn him he makes too many threads about similar stuff.I guess that could be suspicious and or annoying.

Either way, who cares? I'm no stranger to using socks to move a conversation in my favor. Not on this forum, of course, it would be pointless to try when heads can see my IP. My socks are all on Social Media

I do, I wouldnt use socks because that would get me banned and scorned in Kanzenshuu. I love Kanzenshuu too much to do that. I asked Mr Vegetto EX himself to clear this up, I hope he does.

I'm sorry for being so sappy, but I do love this community.

Of course. Like I said, I wouldn't even bother to try on here. But it saves me quite a bit of headache when something I say gets a bunch of whiners riled up.
