Black in the manga is a sadist battle hungry psycho, probably more so than anime Black. Manga Black kept Trunks alive for over a year to act as his personal punching bag, while Black in the anime may have screwed with Trunks, but tried to end him when the opportunity came. So both versions took Goku's battle lust. The different is that anime Black took in Goku's calm personality and his ability to think clearly when things goes south.OLKv3 wrote:He's calm because they can't hurt him at all. He's immortal. He already got what he deserved in RoF by punching Freeza up to losing his golden form, if you wanted even more of that you got it with the anime (with poor art, but still...) There's also when he battled with Beerus, both in the movie and in the anime we got more and a different version of thatsintzu wrote:A small price to pay to see the prince get what he deserves (before getting it back in the next chapterFreeza9000 wrote:Because it was at the expense of diminishing Goku Black as a villain........).
It was fun, but this was Black's time to show how much intimidating he is.
Its true we still have at least one chapter more for this arc, but I'm holding my hopes to see Black being as formidable as in the anime.

To be fair, they usually do get the translation part right, but they liberally add their own phrasing and spice into it. From what I understand, they do so intentionally to encourage the readers to buy the series upon its English release.kidhero1000 wrote:Cause their toolbags.

However... there's one thing on my mental that's been bothering me... Black's SS transformation. Is it SS or SS2? The issue I have with it is the bio-electricity, which typically shows up with SS2 and SS3 transformations. However, throughout the chapter, Goku Black's SS hair mirrored Goku's hair as a SS, not Goku's hair as a SS2. To this end, I don't even think Vegeta used SS2 either, even though with Vegeta, the only difference between SS and SS2 for him appearance-wise is the bio-electricity. There was the one interview where Toriyama said that Goku (and presumably Vegeta) stopped using the SS2 and SS3 transformations (in serious fights) because they sap too much energy, and focused on mastering their base state and SS transformation only (which resulted in SBG and SSB). Goku Black was stated to only be able to use the SS and SSR transformations (which honestly, he knew how to do both in the anime the whole time, as Vegeta stated Black can transform into an SS in the anime and there's no way Black can use SSR without knowing how to use SS in the first place, since SSR is just like SSB in the fact that it's just the SS transformation perfectly mixed with godly ki), so there's no way he used the SS2 transformation, in my opinion.
But now that I think about it, this isn't the first time we've seen bio-electricity appear with the regular SS transformation. Case and point: Vegerot in chapter 504, when he transformed into a SS for the first time while fighting Majin Buu, there was bio-electricity. And across all types of media, it's been referred to as the SS transformation for Vegerot, not the SS2 despite the bio-electricity. I guess it appeared for Vegerot because his natural state was so strong. I assume the same happened for both Black and Vegeta: them just using SS and the bio-electricity appearing as a byproduct of their base forms being very strong (I assume SSG/SBG is more powerful than SS Vegerot based on the BoG movie), rather than it being the SS2 transformation, because Black's hair while transformed is not indicative of the SS2 transformation throughout the chapter. But that's just me talking about what I see.

Less for that reason and more for the above reasoning. We read a lot of your comments and many of you feel profanity in manga feels inappropriate or doesn't seem like what a certain character would say. For the most part, we try not to use profanity unless it actually adds something to the scene or character.
If a character who normally speaks in a rather tame tone suddenly starts speaking in a manner way more, well, vulgar than he normally speaks and is popping off at people, profanity is an excellent way to illustrate that.
If we had to, could we leave the profanity out? Sure. Some translators choose not to use any. Some translators have a vision of an anime/manga world that's, well... PG as opposed to PG-13/R. It's always a choice, always up for discussion, and apart from straight mistranslations, there's always room for debate.
In the end, it all comes down to interpretation, the translator/scanlation group, and choices

If Vegeta is only normal SSJ then it creates an even bigger mess of power tiers since that would mean SSJ Vegeta is stronger than SSJ2 Trunks and SSJ3 Goku

The bio-electric aura for SSJ2 only seems to matter for the original manga series, everthing after it and Toriyama showed no signs of caring as he had SSJ Goku with the bio-electric aura in Neko Majin Z which was drawn by Toriyama and the same thing happens for Goku showing off SSJ for Tarble during the manga version. Black is clearly using SSJ not SSJ2 as his hair is literally identical to SSJ Goku's hairstyle for the majority of his battle against Vegeta, make no mistake. bio-electric aura is optional for SSJ or not now it appears. Also, I can understand Mangastream's liberty with how character's talk when their angry, but the thing is it still doesn't fit.TheShadowEmperor8055 wrote:However... there's one thing on my mental that's been bothering me... Each culture and language has very specific phrases and speech patterns to illustrate their way of words and tone when someone is verbally communicating with another. American and Japanese verbal patterns when talking in anger or annoyance are literally two different things. That would be just as awkward and unnatural if one were to translate a frustrated German speaker being vulgar with French specific profanity/phrases that don't exist in German. Seeing every single character curse like a stereotypical American trucker (Regardless of their personality and how they carry themselves) just goes to show how little Streams' translators grasp the intricate speech patterns Japan uses for that type of situation.

For clarification, Toriyama didn't write the 2008 Jump Super Anime Tour story. He only provided the concept for it while Ooishi handled the manga adaption herself, well after it aired, in 2009. But that doesn't take away from your observation of Goku possessing electricity and Super Saiyan "1" hair together in Neko Majin Z 5.lord turbo wrote:The bio-electric aura for SSJ2 only seems to matter for the original manga series, everthing after it and Toriyama showed no signs of caring as he had SSJ Goku with the bio-electric aura in Neko Majin Z which was drawn by Toriyama and the same thing happens for Goku showing off SSJ for Tarble during the manga version. Not really. Black was fighting evenly with Goku until he got sucked towards the portal. So in Black's case it was 'worf had the flu'. Black also remained calm and in control despite Goku landing several powerful hits on him.
