Do you like Kuririn?
Honestly, I've never really been a fan of him. His presence, save for some key moments, seemed somewhat forced and honestly, non-essential. I find it irksome that, despite having his ass handed to him and being essentially useless, he's the most powerful human. It should absolutely be Tenshinhan, who is a genuine bad ass that actually trains 24/7. He's dead weight. I feel like if you took all the parts of the series where Kuririn was standing around, scared, looking for ways not to be useless, and replaced him with Tenshinhan, you'd have much better scenes.

Take Kuririn out of the Saiyan arc and everyone dies.
Take Kuririn out of the Namek arc and everyone dies.
He's not useless. He showed how superior he is in comparison to Tenshinhan when Ten's greatest attack could barely scratch Nappa, whilst Kuririn got some good hits in, was called fast by Vegeta and dodged Nappa's hits, and even managed to make him bleed.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Exactly. If anything, the Z-section of the story really saved him from falling into the same realm of disuse as Puar, Oolong, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Chaozu. It's DB where Krillin himself is largely inconsequential to the story happening.Doctor. wrote:Take Kuririn out of the Saiyan arc and everyone dies.

When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Since when does liking a character have to equate to how relevant they are to the story? I like Krillin because he's much more down-to-earth (pardon the accidental pun). He reacts to things more like a real person. He gets scared, he feels inferior, he doesn't always save the day by getting stronger than his opponent. But he's almost always there, and the story would be far less interesting without him. He literally adds a human element to the big dramatic scenes of evil guys trying to kill good guys and take over the world.
I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

He also is/was essentially Goku's best friend, at least until Vegeta became buddy-buddy with Goku.

I never had a problem with Kuririn as a character. I always liked how he's one of the most down-to-earth characters in the series. He fucking cut Frieza's tail and almost killed Nappa with the Kienzan. That demands respect.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Definitely. He's contributed so much to everyone and nearly everything would've fallen apart without him. People like to make fun of him and crap on him for being "weak", but that little midget's done more than enough in his span of work. Even even dwarfed several times in power by others, he still manages to survive. He's one of the most down-to-earth characters in the series. He gets scared, he feels terror, and many times still gets up unless he's knocked out.
And at the end of the day, he's such a nice guy who's always lending moral support for his fellow comrades.
He's still in my top 3 favorites, along with Gohan and Piccolo.

I fucking love Krillin. He's my favorite character alongside Vegeta.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Krillin? Yes. Best character IMO.
Krillin is a pragmatic fighter with the ability to think on his feet. He solid snakes it up on Namek keeping Gohan, Bulma and Dende alive, manages to be key in saving Vegeta at least once on Namek, and is single handedly the only character who does any long term damage to Frieza, even lampshading Frieza's defeat with ki discs.
Krillin is also one of the most well rounded characters; he's a fighter but he's also canonically the best husband and father in the series.
He has interests outside fighting and isn't a meathead like the vast majority of the cast including Tien. Which makes him a better contrast character and also the most human character in the show.
His desire to protect people is incredibly endearing; he prioritises Dende's safety over his own against Frieza form 2 even knowing full well if he dies again it's game over.
Hell, he's probably saved Gohan as many times as Piccolo or Goku even, and even stops Recoome from killing Vegeta, helps 16 get fixed up and in the anime willingly fights Super Buu to let 18, Marron, Yamcha, Roshi and the others to flee, and takes on Kid Buu and Imperfect Cell to save people he barely even knows. Because it's the right thing to do. Krillin is the closest character to what I'd consider a true traditional hero alongside Gohan.
He's greatly underappreciated, but Krillin is a considerably more reliable ally than people give him credit for.

Seeing as he's my fourth favorite character of the series, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I'm fond of him.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
I really like Kuririn. First of all, Kuririn plays a huge role in Dragon Ball. It's not even a question. In Z, he's phased out, but think about it. It's really easy to be on the same level as your opponent to fight. Kuririn is nowhere near his opponent and still does what he can, risking his life each time. I truly admire that. Same with Yamucha. Same with Tenshinhan.

Yeah, Krillin's awesome. During the Saiyan and Freeza Arcs, he was like a bad ass underdog.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Krillin/ Kuririn is probably one of the best characters in Dragonball. At least that's how I feel.
A lot of my respect for him comes from the fact that no matter how big the challenge is, he will almost always be there to try and help. But unlike Goku who overcomes and gets stronger, Krillin is usually way out matched and is kicked into the dirt. But there he is when the next threat shows up anyway, ready to shave his head an put on his Gi.

I really love Krillin. Goku gets a lot of love for being intelligent in battle, but Krillins no slouch. He's proven himself to be a genius of battle also. I also think his personality is amazing. I've always had love for the underdogs and he's one of the best there is.

He's a great character all around so of course I like him

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
You think so? I think both him and tien had a pretty good role in Dragonball. Krillin was gokus first rival, helped in the baba tournament, and had some great tournament fights. His fight against Goku and Piccolo Jr are secretly some of the best moments in the series. Even the arc where he's absent, the king piccolo arc, has him motivating Goku into taking down piccolo. He had some great moments in DBZ, but I think dragonBall tested him pretty well.ekrolo2 wrote:Exactly. He's not useless.
Tien was also treated pretty well in dragonBall. He had some good development (although kind of rushed), fought Tao pai pai, and was of some help against piccolo. Dbz dropped the ball though. Although he did get a moment against boo and cell.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
Just because Kuririn had some pretty cool moments in Dragon Ball, it doesn't mean he was essential to the plot, which was ekrolo's point. His existence in the first tournament is irrelevant, he lost the first match against Baba's monsters and Goku could have cleaned it all himself anyway, his presence in the second tournament is also irrelevant, as well as in the third. Really the most important thing he did plot-wise was die.kinisking wrote:You think so? I think both him and tien had a pretty good role in Dragonball. What do you consider relevant to the plot then? Do they have to win the tournament to be considered relevant to the plot? Krillin was definitely a main character during dragonBall and was utilized pretty well. He didn't beat any main villians or win the tournaments but he got the spotlight more than a few times.

Re: Do you like Kuririn?
It means that his actions are crucial and the story couldn't get to the same end result without him.kinisking wrote:What do you consider relevant to the plot then? For instance, Kuririn was relevant in the Saiyan arc because he contributed to the fight against Vegeta and, without him, everyone would have died. Unlike him, Tenshinhan died almost instantly, so even if he got a cool moment out of it, he wasn't relevant because he did not inflict any damage on the opponents.
Kuririn wasn't relevant in the 21st TB because he lost in the first round. He wasn't relevant in the Red Ribbon Army arc because Goku would achieve the same end-goal regardless of Kuririn's help. He wasn't relevant in either of the 22nd or 23rd TBs because his fights didn't affect the overall outcome.
