Last chapter ended with Trunks facing death with the hand of God on his face. It's a dire situation and I personally don't see any plausible way out, I predict he will die.
Why? Because odds are massively against him.

Black has no more reasons to keep him alive, having brought out the power he needs. The Black-Zamasu combo is too great to defeat, even if Trunks gets the "Rage" transformation, it's extremely unlikely he would be able to hold them off for the minimum of hours it should take before Goku and Vegeta return.

This exact moment in the anime is the worst there, by far in my opinion. There, they didn't even bother to come up with an explanation for Trunks survival and escape. I take that a bit personally, it's doesn't show any respect for the viewers. At least with smoke bombs they bothered coming up with something.
That's why I'm concerned about the resolution of this situation here.

What does everyone think? The only less bad explanation I can imagine is Black and Zamasu going Bond villain and torturing Trunks until Goku and Vegeta conveniently arrive just in time.

Trunks' death will be permanent if he does die, and Toyotaro didn't hint for the manga to be that much different, so I don't believe he will die.

I will say that if Trunks happens to die in the manga version of the Zamasu arc and ends up sacrificing himself against Zamasu and Black, I think that would put a well way to end to his character arc imo.

Yo if he blew himself up like Majin Vegeta that scene would be 10/10 through I'm hoping he don't kill goku black but sadly that seems highly impossible because I think trunks is going to espace with a flashblang and smoke grenades or gowasu and supreme kai saves trunk because toyo made the Supreme Kai and kibito a useful character or trunks is going to have SS rage because zamasu or goku black kill Mai and a legit explanation for it or an super Saiyan rage asspull like the anime

Now that I've seen the full translation I can say that I prefer this version of events over the anime.I don't know why but this chapter gave me a DBZ-vibe that no other chapter managed to do so far,at least that much.Overall pretty pleased with how the manga is going and can't wait for future chapters

The manga probably will explain Black used Goku's body to power up and then fuse with himself to have both power and immortality.

"Probably" nothing. If that was the intention, they would have fused now that Black has Rose. Not to mention that fusing would totally nerf any future possibility of Zenkai, since he couldn't properly take damage.

Manga explains things better but I think, and I'm not the only one, the anime was a lot more entertaining.
I will wait for the manga to finish this arc before I give a final judgment.

All Goku Black & Future Zamasu claim is that they'll murder every human across the five worlds. Unless someone remembers something I don't, they never confirm their current progress in Future Trunks' era.

That was Trunks. He was killing the normal Earthlings slowly on purposes and Trunks said in Episode 47 that Black could now sense his ki, suggesting that he couldn't before.

I read Chapter 20 today. Right now I'm in the camp of not loving the manga so far and anime of this arc. Some great ideas along with some not so great choices.

Points for the manga trying to give reasons to Black going Rose and reaching higher levels. But way less impressed with the reasons given.

Why not just make an excuse for Black by using the Super Dragon Balls to get his power to rise (or connect with his body)? The villians had damn time rings and dragon balls, and it would of made things a lot easier to explain.

What does that have to do with anything? What you're suggesting would have been out of character for either version of Goku Black. He doesn't want the power given to him, he's a Saiyan, he earns the power himself. The only real difference is that, rather than weird insta-zenkais of questionable continuity, Immortal Zamasu just heals him whenever he needs in this version.
