The formula is:
x= how much you liked DBZ (1-5) + how much you get bullied at school (0-5) + (1 each year under 18) + 5 if brasilian + 3 if have internet access +2 if daily on youtube.
y= how much you want to stand up in a sad reality without any purpose (1-5)
number of times you had to criticize based on nothing : x ^ y
As you see, Super is out of the equation.

I learned english listening to songs. So I don't know anything about. The day you had to learn play piano by just listening .mp3, you'll understand.

If such an insignificant thing as Goku getting a small scuff on his arm from a bullet is enough for someone to drop the show, then I can't help but feel like that person was already looking for any reason to drop it.alexhermit wrote:One more Goku going bullet level feat and I'm sure even more fans are gonna drop the series completely. And I'm sure it was his biology that saved him, and not cause he already knew the concept of ki to be able to shield himself.
Dragonball already has so many inconsistencies, and much bigger ones at that, that I can't really believe that the bullet thing, which is probably one of the biggest non issues the show has right now, was the thing that caused someone to quit.

Counterpoint: Only since episode 67 have I had any hope I might find the show worthwhile.
If you're a weirdo like me who values its impact on the overall narrative over anything else, the series has become much more promising recently.
That said, should I have followed a show I found this frustrating for the prior 66 episodes? No, but I really like Dragon Ball and Toriyama. Curiosity is a candle that can burn a long time.

I'm a lore junky so I definitely understand, the backstories and universe lore were always the most interesting aspects of the series. So when the universe lore is retroactively changed rather than added to it rubs me the wrong way. That being said this is a key reason why I loved Trunks vs Dabura manga. It expands the lore rather than changing it.Cipher wrote:Counterpoint: Only since episode 67 have I had any hope I might find the show worthwhile.

Yeah but he never had bruises like that from bullets. It almost looked like it was about to draw blood. And were talking about Goku who was at one point barely a car buster to now universal+dbs fanboy wrote:For god damn fucking sake, it was a fucking little scratch, Goku wasn't even really harmed, hurt or in pain, back then, in the manga, Goku complained when he got shot by Bulma cause it was painful, once he fainted after being shot in the back and i'm pretty sure he also got a little scratch in the last pages of vol 2 from the manga.alexhermit wrote:One more Goku going bullet level feat and I'm sure even more fans are gonna drop the series completely. Like i could understand this if Goku was harmed in a similar way to Krillin, but this is ridiculous.
Also remember that he was already half aware bullet coming to him and he still didnt have enough time to completely react to it and raise his ki before it hit him, so is Gokus reaction is also shit? I though he was MFTL lol??
So I wonder why do the writers do that kind of crap? What where they hoping to achieve from this? To tell us that Goku likes to lose his guard all the time and if someone wanted to then they could probably kill him with a gun if he was sleeping!??

You see, this is why I don't count the movie adaptions as part of the show. I mean I know it is, but if you ignore that...that's 25ish episodes cut right there. The Champa tournament started off rough but got better towards the middle and later half. Zamasu arc could have used a bit better pacing, but overall it was nicely done.Cipher wrote:Counterpoint: Only since episode 67 have I had any hope I might find the show worthwhile.

Most of the filler and peacetime episodes also have been aces. Just ignore the god awful superhuman water purple Vegeta arc.

That's not quite fair either. I have major conceptual, directorial, and writing issues with the show that don't suddenly vanish when it gets away from the movie adaptations (though those are certainly a low point). It's just recently started doing some very interesting things too.precita wrote:You see, this is why I don't count the movie adaptions as part of the show. If you did the original movies, like you were obviously supposed to, then go straight to the Universe 6 arc, most of the animation and originality issues had subsided by that point, so it's honestly weird to me to treat obvious padding for scheduling purposes (quite literally filler) as something to hinder a product. No, they had improved. The production woes are still visible and obvious right up through the end of the FT Arc.TheAldella wrote:If you did the original movies, like you were obviously supposed to, then go straight to the Universe 6 arc, most of the animation and originality issues had subsided by that point.
The retelling arcs had nothing to do with the schedule, I'm not sure where you got that notion. Either way, you judge it by that because it's a part of the show, it's dishonest to arbitrarily pretend that it's not.TheAldella wrote:...it's honestly weird to me to treat obvious padding for scheduling purposes (quite literally filler) as something to hinder a product. Being 78 episodes in means nothing. I HATED Super up until the Future Trunks arc, which I actually liked for the most part and that was also really late in. Whether I hate, love, or somewhere in between this arc we'll just have to wait and see. As of now I like most of it except for how vastly out of character Goku is.

I do honestly think we've far beyond reached the point as to whether you can invested enough in Super to keep watching of you feel apathetic towards it to not believe it worth the effort of following it. I mean, I wouldn't put myself under the pressure of think that I should check out a show I already lost interest in just for the sake what some people on the internet think. If I feel that after several dozen episodes, that watching Super still feels more like an obligation as a fan for me to do and a chore, than rather than something that I'm doing because I genuinely enjoying what I'm seeing, then I'll stop watching the show. Of course you legitimately criticise the show, irregardless of how much you like it, there are bound to be some bad episodes, but if every week you some kind of kick out of watching Super, I think that should be enough to keep watching it. And of course, on the flip if you've been watching Super every week since it's inception until now and and have never really found great enjoy out of any of the episodes, then perhaps you should put your energy from watching a show you obviously don't enjoy into trying something else you may enjoy.

Re: We are 78 episodes in! If you don't like super now, you are never going to like it!
This is where I am, I've actually gotten to the point where I wish Raditz had remained part of the cast just based on what they've done to my favorite character Vegeta. It's hard, the things I hate get worse as time goes in because it's just another strike. The things that are ok continue to be ok, the animation has greatly improved but what would be a real waste is the have decades of being a fan ruined. Liking Dragonball isn't about liking a show it's more like liking a team sport where you watch even if your team currently sucks because this might be the game where they turn it around.TekTheNinja wrote:Being 78 episodes in means nothing. That's what happens if you leave Toei alone for long enough. They'll just slowly drift back to their GT waysalexhermit wrote:One more Goku going bullet level feat and I'm sure even more fans are gonna drop the series completely. Re: We are 78 episodes in! If you don't like super now, you are never going to like it!
The turnaround for Super for me was halfway through the Champa tournament. Around the time of Vegeta/Cabba and Vegeta/Magetta matches, I started really enjoying it. Goku/Hit was also good. After that the fillers and Zamasu arc has been great bar the 3-part purple Vegeta arc. This upcoming arc looks great.
Also the animation started to improve toward the end of the first tournament, with far less off-model shots and bad animation aside from some scenes here and there.
I think people often forget how truly awful the movie adaptions looked animation wise except for a few eps.

This is the PERFECT explanation. Me not being a sports fan at all I've not usually had that feeling, but you're right. And I mean if the show is the team, than maybe the players are the characters. Goku's the mainstay, similar to the big names that even non sports fans know about. Gohan's the player who's fallen from grace, but everyone wants to return to his former glory. Roshi is the old player who's come back from retirement and isn't the same as he was back in the day, but can still hold his own in a match. Hit is the popular new player who's going places. I could go on and on.TheMikado wrote:Liking Dragonball isn't about liking a show it's more like liking a team sport where you watch even if your team currently sucks because this might be the game where they turn it around.

I don't think sports analogies are required.
People can like something enough to want it to be better.

Everyone does misremember how bad they were, but in the exact opposite direction. There were about 5 retelling episodes total that looked significantly worse than what we have now, 6 if we include the Champa Arc.precita wrote:Also the animation started to improve toward the end of the first tournament, with far less off-model shots and bad animation aside from some scenes here and there.

Also how bad something looks doesn't always hinge on the animation, that's really only the case for action episodes. When I say the show looks bad, I'm talking about the general look of the show, which is painfully boring. The colors an textures don't blend, the characters' emotes are bland. There's the obvious plastic look that everyone hates. It's just a bland, thrown-together looking show.
