Why use one of the best ecchi anime out there as an example? High School DxD is a show that centers around fanservice that also happens to have a pretty good plot and characters. An example for a shitty ecchi I would use would be Fairy Tail, which is supposed to be a shounen first but has awful storytelling and uses mass amounts of fanservice to try to make up for it.Hellspawn28 wrote:I can't stand garbage like High School DxD.

Forget nudity for fanservice and stuff like that. I want partial nudity such as clothes getting fucked up from fights and such. The lack of that makes fights a lot more uninteresting and is part of what makes the fights feel like plastic action figures clashing rather than two actual people. (The hair feeling static as often as it is also adds to that feeling of them being action figures)

We need to see a sexy scene with Vados.

I don't know. DB Super Angels don't seem like they're emotionally invested in...well, anything really. "Sexiness" seems more in the realm of the Gods/Goddesses of Destruction; like Helles.Smilodon wrote:We need to see a sexy scene with Vados.

sexual fan service is lousy and does nothing but lower the quality of whatever it's used in

Not quite. It can be used well, but subtlety is key and it has to make sense. Digibro has a couple videos about that which are really good.MaxZ wrote:sexual fan service is lousy and does nothing but lower the quality of whatever it's used in

Didn't they already censor dicks in Kai? So I would expect that but I will expect jokes to be in tact they casually mention Bulma's boobs quite a bit in Super and they're not holding back on Roshi either.simtek34 wrote:After reading all four pages of this topic, I am now horrified at what Toei would do if they ever Re-Animate the Original Dragonball...

No, I miss the battle damage, if that counts as nudity, but it's a good thing that the sexual fanservice is gone for good. It had no place in the series and it's something even Toriyama stopped doing after a certain point. Sexual fanservice in anime usually tries to convey no point besides being a lazy way to grab the attention of the 'otaku'.

kai gets a bad rep because of the 4kids blue popo stuff that gets circulated, but that's not the real version.
Re: Anyone else disappointed that there's little to no nudity in DBS?
I don't think Toriyama's use of nudity lasted enough (or managed to imprint itself as one of Dragon Ball's prime identities) to feel any sense of disappointment from its absence. The story progressed away from making that a humorous device. At this stage, I'd argue its return would be rather jarring (at least, if the script chooses to mirror the past executions of nudity). Personally, it wasn't a lingering thought so I'm not particularly longing for nudity when experiencing Dragon Ball Super. If you feel that strongly about the subject, in general, I'm certain there are authors who are willing to accommodate those interests. I wouldn't expect or demand it from the ongoing direction of the series.

Re: Anyone else disappointed that there's little to no nudity in DBS?
Not really. There's a lot of more important things to be disappointed at with Super but nudity ain't it. I'd rather they fix the whole lack of battle damage problem.
Though I'd be cool with more manservice/fanservice as long as it doesn't go for easy targets like Goku and Bulma. Give us Gohan, Piccolo, Chi-Chi, #18, Videl, Cabba, Whis, and Vados fanservice.

Whis, Vados, #18, Chi-Chi, and Piccolo I could get; but Videl, Gohan, and Cabba don't seem like the sort of characters who'd be comfortable showing off their bodies. Any "fanservicey" moment involving those three seems like it'd have to be forced, doesn't it?DBZAOTA482 wrote:Though I'd be cool with more manservice/fanservice as long as it doesn't go for easy targets like Goku and Bulma. Re: Anyone else disappointed that there's little to no nudity in DBS?
As said earlier, the outright nudity basically ended in the Saiyan arc. It's not something I particularly care for to anyway (though, as a kid it made me feel more "mature" and "adult" when I found out about the nudity in the Japanese version
), nor am I really dead-set against it. I don't really care anyway, and besides, if anyone wants nude Dragon Ball characters, it's exceedingly easy to find.
As others have chimed, the battle damage (and the consistency of it compared to every other show at the time, even prior Toei anime like Fist of the North Star) was really cool to me as a kid (and still is). It's something we really need more of in Dragon Ball Super (as well as non-shitty bruises and other wounds that don't look like chicken scratches), and it, along with the stale outfits, is making Dragon Ball feel stagnant, whereas the original series always had a sense of progression throughout even the fights themselves, as well as the series in general with the updated outfits characters would get from time to time (some each arc, like Bulma, Vegeta and Yamcha).
Goku should either be in his RoF outfit now, or he should be in his End of Z one. With all of the foreshadowing of Vegeta softening up even more, they'd better give Vegeta a new, more casual Earth-wear outfit for the next arc.

I actually think it's pretty cool the sexual fan service is next to non existent, and tbh, Super doesn't need it either.

We saw Bulma wearing just a towel in an episode after getting out of a shower...I guess that's as close to nudity as you'll get now.

For people that has sadistic tendencies thats actually a treat, I for one enjoy comedy the most when they bully or hurt someone in a funny sense, ex. Gintama,KonoSuba etc.... its actually fun watching someone getting dragged into something against their wills, it makes it all the more entertaining.Fionordequester wrote:...I don't know, I mean...wouldn't that send mixed signals?
