Dragon Ball has staying power, but I don't think it has enough staying power to survive indefinitely. When Toriyama's gone, when the old voice cast is gone, when what made the series memorable in the first place dies, Dragon Ball will die as well. If it doesn't, we sure as hell won't be involved with it.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:It is an institution in itself. It popularized the mecha genre and made Bandai a billion dollar company. As for Dragon Ball, while it is great and all that it is doing so well, but fuck I don't want it to go on forever. The direction in which it is going though, I can already see it becoming like the PreCure franchise or as someone mentioned like Pokemon except with a terrible character designer. But, oh well that's not changing.
So, I guess whoever wanted lifetime Dragon Ball content is going to get it.

Retired.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I really doubt Dragon Ball will ever die, as much less relevant franchises managed to survive to this day in one way or another. I can't even say Toriyama retiring would stop it, really. Only thing i see putting the franchise on a hiatus would be losing Nozawa...but even she will be replaced someday.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Dragonball should end again eventually, not counting the merch. It ended for 18 years between GT and Super if you don't count Kai, it can end again.

Yeah but they tried with GT and that only failed for ratings and merchandise.precita wrote:Dragonball should end again eventually, not counting the merch. It ended for 18 years between GT and Super if you don't count Kai, it can end again.
Dragon ball may go on hiatus again but it will take something big to do so, like a death

We should see the majority of the people fighting in the tournament in episode 91 and could find out how good each universe will be.
I now wait for a Universe 6 Namekian.

It looks like 91 will focus on the other universes for a bit. That's really something that should have been happening for the past few episodes instead of the little peak into universe 6 each episode. Especially in the episodes that were more or less uneventful. Despite Jiran being the Big boy to watch out for, we know jack about him. Hope we seem some neat fighters before the emperor of the universe returns to take is rightful place on the thrown. Or possibly just be there to laugh at for an episode.

Did Buu fall asleep in the manga or did he just fail the test?

He failed the test. He didn't even write his name correctly if I remember right. Which is way funnier then him falling asleep.Totamo wrote:Did Buu fall asleep in the manga or did he just fail the test?

Not following the logic here. How is Dragon Ball a franchise you are invested in doing so well a bad thing at all? Much less to feel "salty" about. To me it seems that because you don't like Super you want others to have share opinion which comes across bit selfish if you ask me.Avok wrote:I'm actually a little salty that they're making that much thanks to a product that leaves too much to be desired. It is what it is, anyways!
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Fandoms often have some very bitter and selfish people. Like people wishing shows that don't like be cancelled like the Simpsons. They don't like the series anymore, therefore they should stop making it. Screw the fans who still like and enjoy it. They just can't ignored it, they want it wiped off the map to 'save their childhood'. It's the classic, stop liking what I don't like.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Not following the logic here. There is a reason why 'raping my childhood' is a meme and a very untasteful one to boot.

I remember when Xaiolin Chronicles came out, or any other reboot/sequel to my childhood shows, I hated it; so I stopped watching. But I'm never gonna wish a to be cancelled based upon it being bad. Though the show got cancelled anyway, so...HeroR wrote:Fandoms often have some very bitter and selfish people. Like people wishing shows that don't like be cancelled like the Simpsons. Same with me. I didn't care for the 2003 TMNT, so I didn't watched anymore. I didn't go on message boards and wished that the show would be canceled. I also haven't watched the Simpsons for years and I don't go around asking Fox to pull the plug on a successful show because I personally don't like it anymore. You don't like it, stop watching and be happy for those who do enjoy it. It isn't like their happiness is ruining your day or something. In todays' world, we have much more thing to be bitter about.Kanassa wrote:I remember when Xaiolin Chronicles came out, or any other reboot/sequel to my childhood shows, I hated it; so I stopped watching. Why didn't they do that in the anine wouldn't have been nearly as repetitive.Boo Machine wrote:He failed the test. He didn't even write his name correctly if I remember right. Which is way funnier then him falling asleep.Totamo wrote:Did Buu fall asleep in the manga or did he just fail the test?
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Because Buu falling asleep is a running gag. And why wouldn't Buu be able to spell his own name? That just makes Buu look needless stupid along with the cast since they never checked Buu's book smarts.Totamo wrote: Why didn't they do that in the anine wouldn't have been nearly as repetitive.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I thought Boo failed the test in the anime too, I didn't remember that he fell asleep. Well, it was better in the manga, him not passing the test was totally belieavable, he is like a five year old child. Then in the anime it's the third time he doesn't fight because he falls asleep, it's kind of repetitive. I don't know why they went for that in the Champa arc, when him failing the test was a better option and totally logical. The test didn't have any consecuence in the anime then.
But if it was for me, they wouldn't have had the test and Boo would have fought too. At least it was kind of redeemed with the Basil fight. In this arc, I'm fine he falls asleep, as we got his fight, but only if the free spot goes to Yamcha. Any other option, no way.

Gundam is also completely owned by Bandai, not just a license. So, every profit Gundam's merchandising makes goes to them, while they don't get everything from Dragonball (or One Piece).Saikyo no Senshi wrote:It is an institution in itself. Also, Dragonball still is nowhere near Pretty Cure or Digimon as far as merchandising focus goes. Keep in mind that in later installments of those franchises, the introduction of new heroic characters and power ups is completely dictated by Bandai's staff and their merchandising schedule, and then the anime staff has to figure out how to make a story around that. The studio only has complete control over the villains.
