Maybe Newtype got the staff wrong again or it's a new animator or something.
My guess is that they just got Kitano and Itai backwards, so Kitano with 9 weeks on 96 and Itai with 9 weeks on 97.
If that shot is uncorrected Kitano he's not half bad when he gets time, though the shot still has issues. Small hair on Goku and Vegeta and the perspective on Vegeta's arm and fist look off, but it's totally passable.

Purple Goku looks extremely good.
It's not only the face but the whole body is amazingly drawn.
Perfect body shape, type, and details.
It reminds me the drawings from episode 13 and the movies. Clearly someone in that episode knows how to draw Goku's body, right.
No MC hammer pants, no short hands, no nothing.
I need to learn who made that.

Seen people drawing Goku's body right is a pleasant detail. Most of the episodes suffer in that part. They always draw him wrong

Also it looks like Freeza will become Goku's friend after he protects him from Doggy Beerus' blast

True, I forgot that Shida was storyboarding. Episode 7 had the same quality.
I still don't see anything Naoki Tate in that episode. Purple Goku has that round Tate hands but still nothing has his style. Most of Tate's episodes are corrected to the point of sharing the same drawing style from start to finish. Here I don't see him.

It's shocking how pretty this arc has been, so far.
I guess I'll raise my expectations for the tournament, just a little bit, tiny tiny bit.
