1) Suppose while he waited for an hour to pass by, Super Buu actually fell asleep for a day, would this have given both Trunks and Goten enough results through training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to defeat the evil Super Buu? Or would they have needed to form into Gotenks to be able to truly defeat the Pink Demon?
2) Also when Ultimate Son Gohan and then Otherworld Vegeta had arrived, Super Buu had subconsciously turned them into a delicious pair of Chicken Nuggets.
Would an entire year give Trunks and Goten enough power to beat Super Buu?

I think as a fused being they would have the focus and ability to achieve great heights inside a year like they did in only the short time period they had on show.
As individual fighters I think they have the raw power and potential to get really strong, not enough to beat super buu however. But realistically I don’t think they could get past their rivalry and Bickering to train well enough separately. So I think sticking to fusion is their only path

Despite their power being so great for their age, I don't think either of them have enough understanding about training to gain enough to beat Buu without fusion. They'd need Goku, Piccolo or someone else to mentor them.
Not counting BS Toei writers where gaining SSJ1 & 2 is doable in 4 hours, if they went into the room now I don't see them leaving it all that more powerful.
Having said that; I think Gotenks would have beaten Buu faster and easier if he wasn't messing around so much. Bloodlust Gotenks would have got the job done.

They'd probably figure out how to go SSj2 individually if they had a year of training rather than a month.
They'd still get absolutely slaughtered by any form of Buu without fusion. I could maybe see them teaming up to beat one of the weaker variations of Fat Buu, since they'd probably end up stronger than Goku and Vegeta after a year, but the original Fat Buu at full power would still be too much for them. Absolutely no chance of them beating Super Buu even if they fought together and didn't screw around.
Of course, by the time this training is over SSj3 Gotenks would be strong enough to completely humiliate him (rather than being equal or barely stronger than Buu) -- Gotenks might not even need SSj3 to equal/surpass regular Super Buu anymore at this point, SSj2 Gotenks might be enough and then they can actually save SSj3 for the final full-power attack to finish him off, rather than messing around in that form the whole time and losing the fusion too early.
