which I remember one of FUNimation's actors joking about in an interview after Burgmeier took over.

That was Chuck Huber and...um...whoever did the Dead Zone commentary with him.

I've never listened to that commentary, and I heard it a while before that was re-released anyway, so that can't be what I'm thinking of.

Hmm..do the season sets have any interesting special features? I own the first season set, but I haven't gotten around to checkin' it out since the day I bought it Lol.

Not sure. I can't recall any instances where any part of the post Episode 68 redub chose to omit any dialogue as opposed to simply re-recording it.

Season One has a 5 minute featurette on the "remastering" process with Steve Franko, a tech trailer detailing the differences between the "old" and "new" DBZ and the original trailer released back in 2006.

Season Two has trailers only, so it's not much to go out on a limb and say that Season Three is equally bereft of extras (though one of them happens to be the trailer for Season Four). Someone who actually owns the set should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Dear God, I loved that commentary. I only wish that they'd done more commentaries for DragonBall Z.

Dear God, I loved that commentary. I only wish that they'd done more commentaries for DragonBall Z.

You're not wrong. The trailers they do have are interesting, though. They have a trailer for the Blu-Ray Broly releases, as well as a trailer for Budokai Tenkaichi 3. And Tenshinhan sounds like he was redubbed. The last time I saw the Season 3 dub before I bought this set was in 2001 or 2002, so I can't remember his old voice.

Sadly I do not have any ripping material to post a comparison. I know Tanooki is a greatly respected and smart guy here. But there's no way that that is not Burgmeier in his current form.

I think I caught two or three, "next dimensions" in the context of bringing piccolo back to life. Piccolo and Freeza are a confusing situation, some of their stuff sounds new while other stuff is old. Either way its sound better then it did, but that just might be the Japanese score helping out the scenes.

I think that the Japanese score itself greatly helps the English version in mood and tone.

Of the 3 clips I watched in the first season of the new English track, the original music just seemed to bring out the flaws of the voice acting further. I remember posting that back in the day, too...

But in all honesty, it did seem to work very well for the updated death of Vegeta. Maybe they've balanced the audio levels better or that scene was a fluke?

No, I noticed it through the whole set. The JP Music and Eng Voices are much better balanced. The Music is much more hearable (if that's a word).

I just got this set today and watched through the first disk. This appears to be the best season set so far. I only caught one spelling error in the booklet, although I wasn't really looking that hard. The picture quality appears to be a bit clearer then the other sets, and less washed out. I have been watching it in Japanese, but every once and a while I'll switch to the English dub with the Japanese music and it sounds much better than the other sets. The levels have clearly been worked on and the overall presentation is better.

The re-dubs I caught were:
Kami
Tenshinhan
Vegeta
Dende
Krillin
Ginyu Frog (why?)

Everyone else appears untouched, and the old voices seem better meshed with the new ones.

As stated before, this appears to be the best overall set, and I guess that's why we had to wait so long for it.

Just conned someone into gifting this to me today. Gonna sit down to actually watch it before posting anything resembling an analysis, but before all that I just wanted to say:

Lavender, you are definitely correct: Tenshinhan is redubbed the whole way through. Not only is it a much different voice, some of the dialogue has been changed, with Burgmeier listed in the credits as Tenshinhan.

Initial impressions upon spot-checking certain areas of the set:

Goku (or King Kai, or Nail, etc.) has not been redubbed, but we already pretty much knew that from the final episodes of Season Two.

Vegeta is redubbed the entire way through. Mind you, I haven't yet watched the set in its entirety, but With Vegeta's Death quite obviously known to be redubbed I'm going to assume that Vegeta is in 2007 mode for the entirety of this set.

Gohan is a bit early to call for me right now. He's been completely redubbed so far as I've actually watched in order (as opposed to spot-checking), but I think I'm starting to hear an increasing mix between the 1999 and 2007 versions as I go along-- it's too early for me to tell.

Kuririn appears to have been completely redubbed by Strait. Jumping from disc to disc in my spot-checking, I've yet to hear anything that sounds like the 1999 Kuririn.

Piccolo has not been redubbed. At all, anywhere, for any dialogue.

Yamucha has not been redubbed.

Tenshinhan has been completely redubbed by John Burgmeier, with slight dialogue changes and a new name added to the show credits as proof.

Chaozu has not been redubbed.

Ginyu has once again had Dale Kelley's lines dubbed over by Brice Armstrong in their entirety.

ReaCoom has not been redubbed. The voice is much deeper than Sabat's current version, with his Eraser Gun reverting back to "Breath Blast Attack".

Jheese has not been redubbed.

Ghurd has been completely redubbed.

Freeza is completely redubbed up until a certain point after the introduction of his final form. Following that, the voice becomes noticably deeper and I've yet to hear anything that stands out as new, but there's still a lot of episodes left to go.

I think after "Transformed At Last" Gohan's voice is back to the 1999 voice. I could be wrong, but thats what I think.
