I think it's fantastic, despite the fact that his pronounciation of "survivor" sounds kinda like "Seviper" to me, which makes me imagine a Super Saiyan Habunake. XD

Quite simply, I think it rocks. Now all we need it the intros to these games animated by Toei and my life is complete.

Seriously, Meteor's opining was a bad fanfic come to life.

I'm not sure if I like Super Survivor or DBZ2's theme more.

I've been very conflicted with my thoughts on this song.

On one hand, I think it's really awesome. It's got a ton of energy behind both the music itself and the vocal performance. If you listen to Kageyama's vocals, you can really hear some love behind what he's doing; for example, that last "Fight-oooooo!" at the end has almost this 80's-metal, rock-anthem scream to it :D. I also really dig finally hearing some traditional rock musicality to the songs, rather than simply some upbeat pop music (which I can't find fault in due to the age of the series and its relative placement to pop music of the time, but still...). I've always loved the crazy guitar solos in songs like "WE GOTTA POWER" and to hear them come to modern fruition in an arrangement like this is really amazing.

On the other hand, despite everything I've said and felt so far, there's a little bit of "soul" that I find missing in the song. I think the DBZ2 & DBZ3 OPs were the songs that absolutely showcased exactly what a modern version of a 90's DBZ song should sound like -- no particular instrument overpowered the song, the vocals had a similar tone both in content and performance to older songs (for example, DBZ movie EDs), and they brought the same kind of dumb smirk to my face that I would expect from looking at Goku and hearing that type of song.

I've heard a lot of comments about the new game's opening animation being very fanboy-ish. While this doesn't affect the actual song itself, I feel like the song almost heads into that territory, as well. I'm not going to say that previous DBZ songs weren't very generic, but I feel like this song takes a step back in that regard. When you combine that with "RAWR BROLI & JANENBA!!!1" in the animation, it kinda multiplies that feeling a bit.

I more or less still love the song a lot, and it's definitely going to find a place in my DBZ fanboy heart very quickly. I can only hope for more...!

Super Survivor is really cool. Now it's stuck in my head.
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

DB & Tiger and Bunny are my main fandoms, along with many other animes.

It is pretty cool, but I agree with Mike about there being something missing. I won't complain though, any new DB music is fine by me.

Is it just me or does the very start of the intro sound like the beginning to "Chocolate Rain" by Tay Zonday?

Makes us get pumped.

Post by majinvegetaGT » Sun Oct 14, 2007 1:13 pm

VegettoEX is right there is a lot of soul and energy put into this song that makes us get pumped. The only problem I have is the opening video of the theme.
Me personally it doesn't go with the song at all!!!

And I bet their gonna sabotage the damn song with ether a instrumental
version of the song or make a complete different version of it.

But ether way I'll still buy the game. ^_^

Please remember to type properly... just a few things you need to fix up in there, and you'll otherwise be good to go. Thanks!

I've been listening to this song like, 10 times a day since I first heard that a full version existed, and I absolutely love it! Definitely my favorite Hironobu Kageyama song ever. :D

It is now permanently stuck in my head.

It's starts to get far when you start singing it in the bathroom without knowing japanese...
About the song, I love it. Altough the opening is like OMG!11 GOHAN VS JANENBA!!!11BEST ONE!, it's fine. I like the 2D animations of the Budokai games more (Even though I don't ever played them...), but the Meteor opening is good just for using Super Survivor. The song is that good...

Heh, I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like it. I, like some others (can't be bothered/don't care enough to look back to see who exactly) prefer the Dragon Ball Z 2/3 themes. They felt so Dragon Ball, yet still had a rock-y sound to it. This just sounds... I dunno. And the fact that most videos people make of the game have "Suupa Suviva" on them doesn't help.
