Looking at that makes me feel like that director guy after his penalty game in the second chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh.
If you have YGO Vol 1, you know what I'm talking about. If not, I'll reiterate what Timo said.

As for me, I'm fine with Goku jumping through Piccolo...it's the quality. It's terrible. I think YouTube videos are actually better than that.

Well, well... here's the corresponding FUNi shot, then:
As dreadful as the FUNi DVD looks, I'd have to side with it over this trashy bootleg... Though it doesn't take a whole lot to beat that thing. :/

I think that FUNi quality is looking pretty good in this shot

I think it looks fine, sure the colors are saturated and it's a bit grainy, but otherwise I don't really see the problem (unless the interlacing bothers you more than it should)
It's no Dragonbox, but I think the FUNi Db sets are great (200 bucks for 150 eps or so, in their original aspect ratio) to me its the best Dragonball FUNi dvd release out there (GT was better, previews etc but more expensive), so if you object to this set, you mustn't be able to watch anything below Dragonbox quality.

I have to agree here, call me nuts but I like the color scheme on Funimation's sets a little more then the Dragonbox. I'm not sure why it just seems more natural looking to me. Then again I hear you can't judge the Dragonbox just by seeing one or two still screen captures so I’ll just withdrawal that comment for now. But I do think that the quality of Funimations old DVD box sets were great. Especially the Dragonball boxsets, they were fairly cheap in the proper ratio and had a ton of episodes.

Okay, maybe I was a being a bit too strong with "dreadful", but I still think the bitrates on the sets are a tad lacking, all the same.
Despite that, though, I do really appreciate the FUNi DB sets. I mean, I wouldn't have bought a good 6-7 of them if I hated them so much.

I'm sort of halfway, I think the Dragonbox colours are a little too subdued for my taste, but I find FUNi's colours to be far too saturated.
Obviously the best solution would be to get a Dragonbox and change the settings on my tv, but that would be super expensive, and turning the FUNi colours down makes the less than stellar bitrates far too apparent for my taste.

Yeah, the sets are probably the best FUNI put out. The only main thing that appears off is the color of the sky. Skin tones and all that junk look better on Dbox, but the FUNI set isn't too terribly off. Of course, when you watch it, we get back to the same old thing... the DBox images are just that much cleaned up. Looks far better.

The FUNi sets look good when they're still shots - but what happens in motion? Let me go in order, for my set (default settings on my TV)
a. Black skin is PURE black, so black it's not even funny (I hope no one takes that as an offense). Has to do with brightness I assume
b. Everything is very dark, you can't make out the details on Ten's shirt.
c. Those reds hurt my eyes
d. The damage, when you look for it, is obvious - and everywhere.
Okay, maybe D was nitipicking - but my other points remain the same.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Though I agree with you there, points A-to C are all due to the way FUNi have turned the saturation levels up, the damage in the sets is obvious, but sadly typical of all of FUNi's releases, what I'm wondering about is why FUNi's masters of the start of Dbz are
worse than their Dragonball masters (considering the age of DB)
Anyway, the worst thing about FUNi's sets is the bitrate, I've just gotten up to the Tenshinhan vs Jackie Chun fight, and it's crapping out all over the place (but I guess it's to be expected with so many episodes crammed onto the discs)
