Fixed.
I can't tell if people seriously believe Vegeta can beat Jiren.
I believe they do, sadly. I genuinely wish they didn't though, because then their expectations would be lowered, and we wouldn't have to listen to the hundreds of "I'm dropping Super" comments after he gets put down.
JazzMazz wrote:Artorias wrote:HeroR wrote:
Given what we have seen of Toppo, Gohan would get stomped unless he pulls something. Toppo's closest match would be Freeza or Vegeta.
But Gohan has the power of contrived power ups on his side, so I never really count him out. His power in this arc seems entirely random and could be feasably whatever the writers need it to be to fit the situation. The combination of the "power of rage" and his nebulous, undefined ultimate form creates a nice cop out that I could see the writers using to justify him doing anything short of wrecking Jiren.
First off, whose to say Gohan isn't being helped by Goku? Since he isn't fighting Jiren and Dyspo is probably going to be multilated by Freeza, what the hell do people think Goku is going to be doing?
As for Vegeta "Jobbing", I'm fine with the idea of Vegeta jobbing, however, I feel like he hasn't had any major victories in this arc that have really neccesitated his position as being really dangerous. Also, I think they've given Jiren too many people to "job" against. They had a good 3 episode of literally nothing but Jiren curbstomping formidable opponents in the context of the series into the ground, I really hope they don't use this simply to build up Jiren more? At the very least, I expect Vegeta fight against Jiren to be a spectacle and at best to provide an opportunity to reflect on Vegeta's character. The worst thing that could possibly happen is Vegeta wins or obtains UI, or both.
Your second paragraph is my exact thoughts. There is simply no need to have Vegeta get owned like this. Goku already filled the role of hyping up Jiren. Him beating Vegeta isn't impressive at all, especially if he doesn't have UI.
And you're also right, Vegeta just winning straight up would be the most embarrassing, cringe inducing, fan pandering nonsense possible. Please no. I wouldn't mind him coming up with some sort of STRATEGY or noticing a flaw with Jiren that allows him to do it, but just winning flat out? Anything but that please.

In this case, Vegeta isn't jobbing. He can only lose. Not even Hit 'jobbed' to Jiren since Goku did that already and we knew Hit wasn't anywhere near the power of Blue Kaioken x20 with a Spirit Bomb. Hit just lost after putting up a decent resistance.
A better example would be Vegeta vs. Kid Buu since we knew before the jumped that Vegeta stood no chance and if Vegeta is smart (which is questionable this arc), he will know he stands no chance against Jiren and is most likely wasting time. He's either trying to run the clock and make sure U7 have the most people still on the stage or buy time for Goku to go UI. Or maybe he thinks if he pushed to his limits like Goku, he will get UI himself, hence 'stalking his pride'.

There's very few things that could make me drop Super. Even if Vegeta gets UI and beats Jiren I'll still be here, though my opinion of the show will have dropped dramatically.

Vegeta isn't winning against Jerin. Will he get UI ? possibley. will he put on a good show ? most likely, but there's no way he's winning against him. I think there's a high chance Goku won't win let alone Vegeta.

It’s border line retarded to think that this is what they meant by making a cool Vegeta episode.
No one said it'd be a whole episode. Temper expectations. Remember this is also the guy who said
this. If you think that payoff was worth it, then your expectations are probably at the right level.
Also, don't forget to consider
this tweet when speculating. He tweeted this days before the "cool Vegeta" tweet so chances are good it was the same episode. The page he said inspired him is the scene where Vegeta decides to buy time for Goku to build up his energy, and Goku tells him if you die while dead you're dead. The latter makes some people think it has something to do with getting rid of Freeza for good.

What does that have to do with Vegeta's chances against Jiren?

Thing is, he's not writing 122, that's Tomioka, and he probably won't get another episode to write in this arc if Tomioka is going to solo the last episodes like he did in the Future Trunks Saga and the beginning of this arc (he wrote 77-82). Tomioka also tends to get the most important episodes like UI Goku vs. Jiren, Hit vs. Jiren, and UI Goku vs. Kefla.

What are you talking about? Nothing in anyone's recent posts suggests we have a "problem with Vegeta". Just because we don't think he'll win, or that it would be stupid for him to win, doesn't mean we don't like the character.
And so what if we DIDN'T like Vegeta? Not everyone is going to love the same characters you do. You need to chill out with you intense fanboyism of Vegeta. I've seen you all over this forum just being annoyingly delusional about the character, to the point where you're now giving other people crap for expressing their views and PREDICTIONS on what the story holds for us. Stop viewing it like a sports team. These are fictional characters. There's no need to be so defensive and tribalistic. Grow up.

Ok first off you guys hate boner for vegeta is laughable making threads like is vegeta a smart fighter or oh vegeta has went backwards in development(which I see literally every week on this board),and really chill you didn't need to even respond to my post I was just saying my opinion god I swear you goku fans.

Question, do you assumed anyone who criticized Vegeta is a Goku fan? And Goku got more than his share of criticism on this forum. There is literally a thread titled, "Goku is the worst character in Super', along with threads calling Goku a sociopath. Yet, no Goku fan claimed all of Kanzenshuu has a 'hate boner' for Goku.
And for the record, a lot of the same fans who wrote in those threads about Vegeta also lampoon Goku.
And for the record, it weird that you took down your very reasonable post about Vegeta and his role in 122 and maybe 123, to once again make a 'Vegeta is a victim of hatedom' rant.

Hold on a sec. Do YOU honestly think that WE have a hate thing for vegeta just because we think he cant win? Do you know who he is up against? Did you not see beerus one shot A Powered up version of a ssb vegeta in the manga? Did you forget jiren is on that same level? Did you forget that Jiren may in fact be above god of destruction level?
Vegeta needs to pull UI out of his ass he expects to inflict any sort of damage on to jiren.
And i am a big fan of vegeta, but sometimes, one needs to be realistic.

I think his "hate boner" is accurately reflecting the kind of people who are coming out of the woodworks lately concerning Vegeta. I have noticed a sudden rise of unnecessary Vegeta insults on this thread after we found out the episode title. More so than usual.
These are also the same people who said Vegeta would be one of the first ones out and krillin one of the last ones standing. So I try to take most of these guys with a grain of salt. Just trolling.

I have not seen one single person say that they think he's going to beat Jiren. I'm a big Vegeta fan myself. Most people just want to see him put up a good fight or show glimpses of UI capabilities. Unfortunately you get attacked if you say you want something good to happen to your favorite character. Especially if their name is Vegeta.

I do agree that there seemed to be an influx of Vegeta's haters or people who are overly critical of Vegeta, but they're not the majority. Kind of like how there was an influx of Goku haters at the beginning of this arc before it somewhat cooled off.
But most here I think have been mostly fair to Vegeta. Almost everyone here says they want Vegeta to give a good fight, we just don't think he can win or get UI given the nature of how Goku got it.

In fairness, this is true of any character. Vegeta is just the topic of the week because of 122. Before it was 18, then 17, and Piccolo to a lesser extent. Before Tien went out, he was the fandom punching bag.

People just need to have a bit of realism tho. A SSB vegeta would get glared away by jiren. As much as i love vegeta, i dont see him having progress on jiren, unless jiren decides to lower his power in order to have some fun, which is something jiren has done.

And that's the problem, isn't it. Though this is more a problem that's been caused by the anime, due to the Kaioken. If Jiren is much more powerful than Blue Kaioken x20 Goku, then he's over 20 times stronger than Vegeta too. As it is, Vegeta logically has absolutely no chance, so it's difficult to get excited and expect anything. I wish I could be more optimistic, hoping for UI Vegeta or something, but I just don't see it happening here.
At least in the manga he can have the same role as he did in the Kid Buu fight, where he was getting wrecked as an SS2 while buying time for SS3 Goku, showing extreme resilience and just not giving up despite being outmatched. The power scaling isn't too crazy for something like that to happen in that version. I'd like that.

Both Goku and Vegeta are equal in the manga thanks to completed Blue. He'll most likely get something more than just being Jerin's punching bag so Goku can collect his energy as Goku doesn't have the kaioken so whatever he'll be able to do in Blue, Vegeta will as well. It seems like the whole point of bringing back the Kaioken was to make it impossible for anyone to be on Goku's level, no matter how hard they try.

Why do you always call him Jerin?

I think there is very little chance they'd let Vegeta severely underperform in an episode dedicated to him. If they gave Piccolo a fairly momentous scene this arc, I'm sure they wouldn't dial it back when it came to Vegeta. Whether he gets something power-wise isn't a certainty, but it is highly likely simply because Goku got UI so early in the arc. That leaves time for Vegeta to do so as well, because ever since Super started he has never far behind when it comes to transformations. Either way, he'll put on an impressive show, and I don't think it'll be just of him getting his ass handed to him.
