Origin of "Mystic Gohan" Usage

I actually like Mystic Gohan. The trick is not to see it as a title, but as an adjective, that is, "the Gohan who is Mystical."

It's been Mystic Gohan as far back as I can remember.

That's what he's called, so that's what I'll call him.

"Chou" is Japanese for "Super".

I've never seen that myself, but it does sort of remind me of how Daizenshuu 5 refers to Vegetto (in English) as "Final Fighter Vegetto". This is the semi-Enrish translation they give to "kyuukyoku no senshi bejitto", which would probably better be translated as "Ultimate Warrior Vegetto".

Well, the whole phrase was in alphabet. I think they spelled his name as "Vegetto", but I could be misremembering. I'll check on Wednesday.

Well, I'm already planning on looking through my Daizenshuu for all kinds of stuff over my Thanksgiving break anyway, so it's no inconvenience for me.

It’s from Daizenshuu 5, I believe, or whichever one is the second part of the animation guide. I don’t know the page number, but I can kind of describe where in the book it is. You know how the animation guides are sort of divided into chapters, based on the story? “The 23th Tenkaichi Budokai”, “Appear the Super Saiyan 3”, and the like? Well, “Final Fighter Vegetto” is the last chapter-ish thing for the second animation guide, covering Gotenks and Gohan’s fights with Buu and the events the lead up to the birth of Vegetto. So it should basically be the last part of the book before the episode guide. The phrase itself should be on at least the title page for that chapter, written sideways.

See now that would weird me out. Super Gohan would make me think of SSJ.

Well, in Japanese when they refer to Super Saiyans they use the English word "super" instead of "chou", so that at least keeps them distinct. Of course, that distinction kinda drops out in English.

Up top it says 無敵! 究極戦士ベジット (muteki! kyuukyoku senshi bejiito). I'd say that's pretty good.

Hmmm...I misremembered the Japanese text a little. Anyway, that's "Invincible! Ultimate Warrior Vegetto"

Not sure where to look for something like that. The title headers for the first couple DBZ arcs in TV Animation 1 are "ATTACK OF THE SAIYAN" and "BATTLE OF NAMEKKU PLANET".

They used the "Namekku" spelling? (´・ω・`)

I believe there's a shitajiki out there that spells it "Namecc"... I like that one. And it fits with the "Nameccian" spelling, too.

I've seen Kakarotto spelled 'Cacarot' on a toy box somewhere, though whether it be official or not (I dunno why it wouldn't be) I've no way of knowing unless I stumbled across it again. I've seen several Doujinshi that use obscure spellings in English letters as well (such as Namecc with two c's, which seems...rather pointless), but those aren't technically official products - nonetheless, though, I think it still gives insight into how the Japanese spell the various names and whathaveyou from the series when writing in the Roman alphabet.
