Kefla is the one used by official subs, so I’m sticking with that one. Unless you want to debate people who use vegito Instead of vegetto.alakazam^ wrote:Actually, Kefla is the misspelling, so...Kenneth La Torre wrote:I know what he means. I was poking fun at his misspelling of Kefla as kaflo.

I mean, official or not, "Vegito" is a pretty nonsensical spelling, given that nobody calls Goku's rival "Vegita".

Yes, pretty nonsensical, tho that’s the official name in English. Just like Kefla. While kafla is the proper way to spell it, the official subs call her Kefla.Zephyr wrote:I mean, official or not, "Vegito" is a pretty nonsensical spelling, given that nobody calls Goku's rival "Vegita".
Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
It's not like it's the only official English one. Viz's Vegerot is official, too.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
You can settle for that, sure, but it doesn't make it right by any accounts. Unless some people call her Kele, of course.Kenneth La Torre wrote:Kefla is the one used by official subs, so I’m sticking with that one. Unless you want to debate people who use vegito Instead of vegetto.

Vegito is used on everything else tho. And I think vegerot is a much better spelling than vegitoZephyr wrote:It's not like it's the only official English one. Viz's Vegerot is official, too.

I've seen people use "Keeru" so that "Kefla" makes sense.

"Vegerot" is what the translators came up with because they'd been going with FUNi's rendering of "Kakarotto" as "Kakarot". It's not largely recognized by most & it's not the official name for the character outside of Viz's translations, which I would wish they'd fix, either by first reverting Goku's birth name to "Kakarotto," then reverting Vegito's name to "Vegetto," as apparently FUNi did for Kai on the Vegetto name spelling.Zephyr wrote:It's not like it's the only official English one. However, I still bring up a problem in that spelling since the double "t's" signifies that, rather than be pronounced "Veg-ee-toh", it would be pronounced "Ve-get-oh" like Vegeta's name pronunciation in the Spanish dub or something. I've said this before & I'll say this again, his name SHOULD be spelled "Vegeto" to match "Vegeta," but with the "o" in "Kakarotto." However, it's spelled in the English versions as it's pronounced rather than how it's Romanized by some translators; "Vegito." Given that Vegeta's name is a shortened pun on "vegetable(s)," HIS name shouldn't be pronounced as it's Romanized either, but that's another thing. So, it makes sense to be spelled either way. "Kefla" is the exact same way, since it's pronounced "Kay-fla" rather than "Ka-fla," so replacing the first "a" with an "e" makes sense for it to be Romanized as.
All in all, "Vegertot's" a dumb name based on a translation discrepancy not even FUNimation made, "Vegito" doesn't make sense, but also makes sense at the same time, & so does "Kefla."
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

I mean, "Kakarot" makes more intuitive sense to me than "Kakarotto", so I'm ultimately fine with "Vegerot", even though I use "Vegetto".
Regardless, the point was that "Vegito" is not "the" official English translation, as there are multiple official English spellings for the character's name. Your point about their use of "Vegetto" for Kai furthers that point.

There are a lot of words with an English pronounced "a" that still kind of have this "e"-sound in them. They sound similiar to the German "ä" then (that's just some comparison that comes to mind right now, it does not mean it is the best one).Scsigs wrote:"Kefla" is the exact same way, since it's pronounced "Kay-fla" rather than "Ka-fla," so replacing the first "a" with an "e" makes sense for it to be Romanized as.

Lets leave the pronunciation subject, let’s just agree that official translations suck at translating fused names.

You're thinking pronunciation as if the name was created for the English language. The name is ベジット, so the pronunciation would never change though it's usually romanized as "Vegetto".Scsigs wrote:
