Yes, if you're a mouthbreather who doesn't actually understand what the concept of 'cinematic' is, which isn't dictated by the length or width of a screen.Lavender Saiyan wrote:I agree. So very true. It didn't look very cinematic to me, you know with the awkwardly chopped off heads and washed out/fucked up colors. Then again, that's just me.ETC123 wrote:Yes, if you're a mouthbreather who doesn't actually understand what the concept of 'cinematic' is, which isn't dictated by the length or width of a screen.

Mouth breather? Are you trying to call some of us snorers or asthmatics? Or maybe you're referring to some of us as snot-nosed brats (almost literally)...ETC123 wrote:Yes, if you're a mouthbreather who doesn't actually understand what the concept of 'cinematic' is, which isn't dictated by the length or width of a screen.

Seriously, what's with the name-calling? I thought Corey said that he wasn't aiming to fuss at anybody on this forum about the issue; why do you seem to insist on doing it instead?
You don't have to be happy with what we've got for these Season Sets, and you don't have to go and buy them from FUNi if you don't want to. But really, there's no point in ragging on those of us who do end up getting them for whatever reason, or even on those of us who -- GASP -- actually like these releases. Not everybody shares your personal taste; it's not something to be offended about.

Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Actually the R2-singles aren't that expensive. Each disc contains 6 episodes while funi dvd's contains only 3 or 4 of them. I live in europe and paid for my first Dragon Ball R2-Single DVD ca. $50 express-shipping included (3-5 days). If i would import the Funimation-singles (2 discs, 6 episdoes), I must pay around $60 or even $70 Dollars, standard-shipping included.2) Import the Dragon Box singles, which, while less expensive and easier to come by than the Boxes, are still rather expensive and need to be imported, as well as still being in a language they can't understand.
Jerseymilk wrote:Not trying to drag things off topic here, but ECT123, you've been on the boards how long? Why do you suddenly have a sig pic up. Rules dictate no sig pics, which I was under the impression you were aware of.
Yeah, I was going to say that. Just so this post isn't completely useless...I don't really care about a "cinematic feel" if it means I'm losing footage.

It does give the cinematic feel! Like when the really fat guy is walking past you with his popcorn in the movie theatre and you can't see anything on the screen. I totally feel like that when I'm watching these new awesome sets!

Your posts in this thread (and several others, lately) have essentially consisted of mean-spirited, sarcastic comments that add nothing to the conversation. I'll ask that you hold them to yourself, rather than wasting the time.NeptuneKai wrote:It does give the cinematic feel! The singling-out is but one example. Everyone else's hostility is getting a little old, as well. Again, if you don't actually have anything to contribute... don't contribute. A long tirade of back-and-forth nonsense isn't helping anyone, and is doing nothing more than proving the pre-conceived stereotypes of each side of the "argument"... whatever that may be (and honestly, I can't tell anymore).

Re: The Community.
FUNimation's like the needy ex girlfriend who promises to change if you take her back, only to give you more disappointment.
The season sets were pretty the last chance for FUNi to get the show "right". Instead we got foaming mouths and widescreen.
The sad thing is that nobody cares but us.

Well like it or not, they're making lots of money off this. They got all they could from the single DVDs, now they're getting tons of money from this imperfect set. Trust me, I'm sure if you know that they're not perfect, they know that it's not perfect. They're just getting more and more money out of this from:
a) People who couldn't afford all their single DVDs
b) People who did afford their single DVDs and decided to give the HD a spin for better or worse
They know what they're doing. But even if they don't, that doesn't stop them from getting a lot of money off these sets. You think they care about giving you the "perfect" show done right? As far as they're concerned, that's what the single DVDs did. They had 2 versions, the original and the dub, they released nearly all the episodes on single DVDs, and the picture was 4:3. Up until the Dragon Boxes came out, those were the definitive DVD releases. I wouldn't say that the Dragon Boxes are the original unedited footage because they obviously cleaned it up. It's basically the same thing FUNimation did but in a different step. They're getting tons of money off of this anyway. And if they're smart, after they release all of Widescreen, they'll go back and re-release the entire show exactly like in the Season Sets except make it 4:3 with fixed up lines and blurriness and call it the true definitive collection. That would give them even more money from:
a) People who didn't get the 4:3 or the Season Sets
b) People who have the Season Sets but want this one because it's the original and cheap
c) People who have all three
All they gotta do is add in something that the singles or the "Remastered" don't have and they're good as gold. Think about it, I mentioned this in another Thread, how else could they possibly make three times the money by selling the same show to people? Make it different, make it imperfect, sell that garbage, then sell the good one to people. Whether it's their intention or not, that's the way it seems to be headed and that's going to make them good as gold.
By the way, this is the Community discussion, how'd the Season Sets get in here?

I wouldn't call it divide. I don't think anyone would admit that the picture is flawless. And I don't think anyone would accuse the sets of being done with so much care and love. What can't be argued is the fact that it is cheap and easy to own. Also, what you can't argue is that it offers something new with the dub and original Japanese music.
Now whether you like them or not, that's no reason to divide the DBZ community, no more than "which character is your favorite" should.

Of course it shouldn't divide the community but that doesn't mean that it hasn't created a division similar to the "dubbie/subbie" division of the days when Dragonball Z was running through on Cartoon Network back in the day. Now it's the "DBox/Remastered" division. Sure, it's not too apparent of a division on this forum, but other forums out there that practically celebrate the US releases like they're a gift from [insert deity here] or something and really wouldn't welcome the talk of how imperfect they really are. Of course, these are the same kind of places that wonder when FUNi's going to bring DBAF to the states so we can see Son Gohan go SSj4, Son Goku go SSj5, and Trunks turn evil.

LOL, where did you find that Castor Troy? Even for someone who supports the Season Sets (choice or no choice) like me, that's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen!

GG Castor.
Anyways, I felt like bringing this up. I really find it funny how people in other forums or elsewhere talk about the Season Sets like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, yet won't bother trying to learn about the Dragon Boxes. I mean, it's nice to support something but not to know or find out about better alternatives is a bit elitist, isn't it?

I suppose that's a good point. There are extremes on the other end as well. Hmm...Eclipse wrote:GG Castor.
