Would you like to see the Dragon Ball Franchise on Netflix, (Even if it was redubbed)

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

There's something to be said for the inherent permanence of the fact that when you personally, physically own something, that's it: its yours forever, and its not going anywhere.
I'm a supporter of physical media too but I don't see it as a medium in competition with streaming. For the most part physical media is still what it's always been, a way of assembling a collection selectively from what you have watched and liked. I would argue streaming benefits this, as we can now watch a much greater variety of series than what we used to be able to on cable and video rentals for a better price. For sure we've seen a trend of discs becoming more of a niche as the average Joe will overlook the downsides of streaming (i.e your favourite shows being taken down) but I still think streaming has its advantages when it comes to checking something out.

I also agree with ABED that there is a need for both general and specialized streaming services. I like anime, but I don't watch as much of it as many other people, so Netflix (which usually seems to get the anime I've been interested in like Attack on Titan, Black Lagoon, etc) better suits my needs than Crunchyroll or FunimationNOW.

Eh, I wouldn't be so sure here, especially back in the VHS era. The sheer amount of shit you could find in a Blockbuster or Suncoast back in the 90s/00s was quite frankly staggering. Especially anime.

I remember that time. I worked in a video store and none of them had the floor space where you could find the sheer volume of stuff you'd find on streaming services. You would definitely find a lot. That's not to say you couldn't find a lot of great stuff, including hidden gems, but it's not comparable, much less the tenth that Kunzait claimed. I'm sure he was exaggerating, but it's still a big claim.

I'm in full agreement with Dragon Ball Ireland.

Streaming is, ultimately, the future.

And streaming does end up better for anime than home video or TV in terms of exposure; only people who are already into a show would buy it on home video(Yes, I realise some people buy shows they haven't seen on home video, but with how expensive anime is, and just how ingrained piracy is into the anime community, not even hardcore anime fans buy that much home video stuff they aren't already a fan of), and these days, anime tends to get buried on TV, at best relegated to the late-night Toonami, which only people who are already anime fans really watch religiously. Streaming very much opens it up and exposes it to general viewing audiences. If a show's on Netflix, it's a click away for any subscriber, rather than £40 per 22-episode volume away.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.
