It could work or it might not but at least it would be something new, we've seen the Saiya-Jin, Freeza and Cell arcs so many times we aren't really missing much by not owning the next Dragon Ball game.Rocketman wrote:This would be a really bad idea. TOEI completely failed at creating a new story and new characters, and they're the next step down from Mr. Toriyama himself. Why on Earth do you want Random Videogame Company (TM) to take a crack at it?

We already did get an "original game storyline." It was Shin Budokai 2's story mode, and it sucked.

Now, if they elaborated on other parts of the story - the less covered aspects - wouldn't that be something?
How about a game that starts in the Saiya'jin Arc, like normal, goes through Freeza...and then follows Mirai Trunks timeline? Goku kills Freeza, dies of the virus, and so on.
Then the whole thing becomes a game of survival.
Eh, bad example.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing a game outsourced to SquareEnix, see what they come up with.

Definitely. I played the hell out of that game before the cartridge died on me. It's got huge cast (including Ginyu-Goku as a separate character), excellent sprites for a GBC game, a wide variety of attacks (different physical attacks for nearly every character, Oozaru attack for Kid Gohan) some team attacks if you're playing a two-vs-two match (Piccolo and Gotenks do the Volleyball Attack, Young Gohan and Goku do the Father-Son-Kamehameha) and lots of replay value.JohnnyBoy_Z wrote:Nope. Do you recommend it?

That game was a difficult one. I still haven't unlocked all of the cards, and seem to be not play it as much anymore. That was one of the best DBZ adventure games ever made. I remember being pissed at losing to Captain Ginyu (as Goku) for a couple days, or not being able to win against Freeza when I was SSJ Goku, and not knowing what to do. The same happened with Recoome.

What if they got Akira Toriyama to write a story and design new villains?Rocketman wrote:After 500 episodes and 20 movies, I have no confidence in Nameless Videogame Drone thinking up any kind of original villain.Gaiash wrote:That was a what if story. Three words: Super Dragon Ball.
Basically a prequel to Super Dragon Ball Z using just Dragon Ball characters.
Son Goku
Yamucha
Muten Roshi / Jackie Chun
Kuririn
Namu
Giran
Jinzoningen #8
General Blue
Adjutant Black
Mira-kun
Akkuman
Grandpa Gohan
Tenshinhan
Chaozu
Piccolo Daimao
Tambourine
Drum
Piccolo Majunior
That's 18 characters right there off the top of my head. If they wanted any more, they could use characters like Colonel Silver, Cymbal, or some of the various Budokai contestants. Maybe even Lucifer from Movie 3.
Also, there would have to be more alternate costumes than Super DBZ. Not just a crapton of different colours, but actual costumes. And the ability to actually fight the computer in versus mode.

But the various storylines in Super Sonic Warriors were good, and the "what ifs" in Tenkaichi 3 with actual storylines were good too (Saiyans VS Freeza, #8 & Goku VS #16 from the future). We already did get an "original game storyline." It was Shin Budokai 2's story mode, and it sucked.
Would the villains really need to be original? Most of the movie villains are rip offs, but they still have many fans. After 500 episodes and 20 movies, I have no confidence in Nameless Videogame Drone thinking up any kind of original villain.
But at least it would be something new to draw us in. Plus the movie villians weren't all bad.Rocketman wrote:After 500 episodes and 20 movies, I have no confidence in Nameless Videogame Drone thinking up any kind of original villain.Gaiash wrote:That was a what if story. Anyway my backup Dragon Ball dream game is a Capcom crossover game, but that is never going to happen outside of Mugen.

Which is the problem. It's far more likely that the new villian would be a ripoff of a ripoff (or Broly *shudder*) than anything worth $40.Neon Z wrote:Would the villains really need to be original? Guys, don't use Shin Budokai 2 as a model of what a game with new characters would look like. Even though AF is completely fake, Xicor is pretty original as the Evil Son of Goku.

So, what happens when the player-controlled SSJ Vegeta defeats #17 and #18?Duo wrote:Now, if they elaborated on other parts of the story - the less covered aspects - wouldn't that be something?

You unlock "raise Trunks" mode, in which case you get to pick between negligent, abusive, or pedophilia father-types.Rocketman wrote:So, what happens when the player-controlled SSJ Vegeta defeats #17 and #18?Duo wrote:Now, if they elaborated on other parts of the story - the less covered aspects - wouldn't that be something?

...or #16 walks up behind Vegeta and punches his head off his shoulders?
I demand the option to muscle in on ChiChi and start a harem.Duo wrote:You unlock "raise Trunks" mode, in which case you get to pick between negligent, abusive, or pedophilia father-types.
Oh, I see. Gotta force the player to go along with your bull....or #16 walks up behind Vegeta and punches his head off his shoulders?

Ahhh, yes ChiChi. And where would Gohan and Goten fit in this equation?Rocketman wrote:I demand the option to muscle in on ChiChi and start a harem.Duo wrote:You unlock "raise Trunks" mode, in which case you get to pick between negligent, abusive, or pedophilia father-types.
But why #16 though? Why not...Popo?Duo wrote:...or #16 walks up behind Vegeta and punches his head off his shoulders?
