Piccolo had mellowed out long before the Buu arc. He began to lose his worth when he was no longer an anti-hero.

Maybe this is a weird complaint to have, but in the anime they showed the afterlife too much. It's like every other episode you see people hanging around in Heaven and Hell, and after a while I started to wonder why it really matters if anyone dies. In the anime version of the DB universe, death for the heroes is more like having the character move away for a while rather then any kind of real tragedy. It kind of ruined the dramatic moments for me to be thinking that the other crying or supposedly devastated characters know exactly where their dead friend/family member is going and know for a fact that they'll see them again, or that all that would happen to the villains is that they'd just have to stand around in Hell and be bored for a while, and maybe get on each other's nerves. If they had to show the afterlife so much, they could at least have made it somewhat mysterious and mystical, maybe even spiritual, instead of being just a relocation.

I agree, before I knew everyone keeping their bodies was anime only, I was a little annoyed, especially at the way hell was depicted (Everyone behind bars? Ugh..) but once I found out it was all filler, I got over it.

Very true. I agree entirely.

Just posting to say that Mike D's post is a masterwork, and completely on the mark on my main problem with the series, and the Buu saga specifically.

Personally, I actually find the Baby Saga and dragon stuff in GT to be more interesting than the Buu Saga. That shit just never knew when to end, and nothing important happened until vegito came in anyway. The pacing was all off. Once the Cell saga got a bit tired with Trunks and Vegeta getting their shit ruined by Cell, they changed the setting up and introduced the Cell game, which at least changed the setting, brought in some new blood, and a little suspense.

Buu saga was just a giant fistfuck.

I thought the Boo saga was good like I said earlier but the thing that pisses me off about it is that there are numerous times when Goku said that he wasn't coming back/leaving the Earth to somebody else. Then out of nowhere Goku comes back to life and then becomes the savior of mankind. You know, The thing he said he didn't want to do!

I just really wish that Goku would've stayed dead.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Well, look at the real world. Plenty of people believe in Heaven and that their loved ones are in a much much better place after they're dead. And they still get depressed and emotional when they die. Just because you know where they are, that you'll see them again, and that they're actually OK doesn't change the fact that they're gone.

And them coming back isn't always guaranteed either. They've got to beat the bad guys first (we know they will, but they don't).
