Can someone please explain to me why Doctor Gero seemed to have been given a longer name in one of the Spanish Dubs of Dragon Ball Z?

I guess they took the liberty of making up a first name for Dr. Gero.

the explanation of the dubbing director Gloria Rocha is that Dr "Gero" did not feel remotely Japanese and had no particular meaning which was in contrast to the series so the name was changed his name to "Maki" like that sushi of the same name .. but given that the client realized and did not like that change, they change his name to gero again, however to avoid inconsistencies with the name in the series ... Dr Gero happened to be called "Maki Gero" yes Gero is his last name
