Re: Funimation's blu-ray film remasters
Hey there.
I have no doubt that they did a better job than the orange bricks because a) they didn't crop the top and bottom into 16:9; and b) they don't have disappearing lines. I think that the Blu-rays are pretty good.
But, the "grain" has been explained before when the 30th anniversary set was being released. As it turns out, Funimation caught some backlash over them removing grain, so they went in and added artificial grain which didn't solve the issue in the first place where a lot of detail was lost because once again, Funimation has no clue. It thinks it's about grain and fans just want a grainy image. It's about the fact that the picture's detail -- particularly the background -- was smudged away with the grain's removal.
To draw a comparison, it's like if fans were complaining about the 16:9, so they took that and cut the sides too in order to fit 4:3 and responded with, "Look! It's no longer 16:9!"
This company makes superficial fixes without really knowing why it's broken in the first place.

Re: Funimation's blu-ray film remasters
Those are actually pretty good. At least the Blu Ray versions of the Double Features, the used DNR, but it still has grain and is pretty sharp. This is actually the same or similar DNR to the last two OB's. I also like them more than the singles because of the widescreen aspect ratio, which even the Dtagon Boxes use, and is what I prefer, though 4:3 is also technically correct.Kingbrockstar1995 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 6:09 pm i meant the 1990's theatre movies were remastered decent

The Dragon Boxes were 4:3, not 16:9 (widescreen).KPike87 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 3:18 amThose are actually pretty good.
