...To be fair? They know there's a very real chance that Broly will overpower them—more likely than not, in fact. You could argue they're more fatalistic than normal, even though I agree with you.

I can't imagine that he would drawn any of the human like characters to be cut in half or to beheaded, that's just not his style. I bet he would prefer to have Bra to impale Gohan instead of slicing him in half.

Though to be fair, I'm just being the devil's advocate here, and this is more of a background detail made to deliberately shock and show the ruthlessness of the new villains rather than tell readers "Oh wow, look how bloody this story is!"

For Dragon Ball, yes, this is needlessly gory stuff that's very poorly justified except for a desire to be "hardcore."

But other comics make it work exceptionally well, and I can imagine their readers would laugh at the idea that such violence in a martial arts series upsets people. I know Kunzait is one who is consistently upset at how weak many people's stomachs are.

I don't think anyone's necessarily upset about the material being too graphic. It's just juvenile.
