A SKECTCH OF PICCOLO BY TORIYAMA FOR SALE?

Okay.
So, talked to the wife, and yes, Christmas is spoiled (or, I prefer to look at it as, "came in July").
As to the piece's authenticity. When I first clicked on the piece, I immediately (before it was pointed out here who the winner was and realizing that was my wife) thought that it was legit. If you've seen any of Toriyama's quick sketches... it looks 100% money. The line density, the skribbles, the leaving the pen too long in one place look like any of the quickie's I've seen previously. While his signature looking "misspelled" (who has a clean signature when they're signing dozens of these sorts of things? I was just looking at some original Peter Laird TMNT sketches-- posted on his own website-- and I'd say "no one") didn't phase me, the title "Pikkoro" did. Not just because it was mentioned here as wrong in the Japanese, but more importantly because I haven't seen many of his give-away sketches have the character's name on them. If someone is taking this sketch, they usually know who it is. Actually, as someone earlier vouched for having seen a sketch very similar to that Bulma sketch (being sold by the same fellow) in Shonen Jump, I'd add that image does NOT have a title as to the character.
Oddly enough, my wife tells me, the seller actually mentioned this upfront in correspondence. This item (if we are to believe the seller) came from a man who worked for Toei-- he won the item at some sort of in-house raffle, and somehow it got to our seller. If you'll notice-- the handwriting on the title does NOT match either the style of the words "Dragonball" (the writing of "Dragonball" being very common on an AT sketch) or the signature. As such, in typical Asian market fashion, at some point in passing this piece along the buyer believes either the raffler or the fellow he got it from "titled" and mis-titled the piece. Like I said, if you know anything about Japanese art displaying, it is not common for even a MUSEUM to stamp their displays with a title.
So. As the "soon" owner-- I damn sure think the piece is legit (which is probably the most important opinion until Mr. Toriyama himself feels the need to chime in), and thought so before I knew my wife had gotten me this awesome gift (which she also managed to get below the price that is shown there through the magic of Paypal). We'll see about covering up the mis-title upon framing, but I'm on cloud nine about the sketch (as I am more than just a small Dragonball or Piccolo enthusiast... I mean, I find out my wife got me this not by an accident on HER part, but because somebody mentions her handle on the Dragonball FORUM that I troll : ). I'll see about getting people here some nice scans later on if there's an interest!

I for one would love to see a clean scan. I couldn't get a decent look at the one on the page because of all the giant red signatures covering it up.
Hope it goes well for ya ^^ Ebay is a kinda fun little place, ain't it?

EBay is a fun place... but I think my wife would like to beat someone up over the fact that her username was posted by them as winner so that someone at a message board could ruin her Xmas scheme (albiet unintentional). : /Velasa wrote:I for one would love to see a clean scan. My wife is a Christmas-planning freak. She gets half of her Christmas shopping done before September's done.
Now, my quest is to figure out how to top a Toriyama... of Piccolo, no less. The stakes are very high. :)
The sketch is being shipped to her folks (as was an attempt to not key me in on it), so... the scan wait begins.
