I wouldn't really call it a tragedy. We had three Budokai games in three years, followed by three Tenkaichi games in three years. Ultimately, Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 were only three years apart. And the year after BT3 saw both Burst Limit and Infinite World, so both the 2D and 3D style were being pretty well covered.
I would say the tragedy was that the wrong lesson was learned. Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 were both acclaimed games for the huge strides made in the gameplay, which in essence had to play catch up to the excellent graphics. But alongside those gameplay gains came ever increasing rosters and fan service, and I think that had more influence on developers moving forward. BT3 wasn't an amazing game because it had Freeza Soldier in it, it was an amazing game because the gameplay itself was so much fun.
I would love to see a new Budokai game, personally.

I hope so.budokaifanatic007 wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2024 1:36 am Hopefully, with the success of Sparking! Zero, we can see the rebirth of the Budokai games. The last real attempt they made at refreshing the Budokai series was with Burst Limit, which had so much potential, albeit being an unfinished game. You never know.
As great as FighterZ is, I do still want a more simple fighter where you charge up your own ki. And one that looks more 3D animated.
