Tha main story started to get interesting so it's obvious we'll back to reading specials nobody wanted to read.

Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Pretty cool.
I will say this, the DB Multiverse team are much more ambitious than official DB has ever been and even with all their flaws, I appreciate their stories much more than the modern canonical stuff.
Corporate Dragon Ball just doesn't do it for me anymore to be quite frank and it figures only fans could release a product where we have such things as animated panels.
The franchise owners would just cheap out again and feed us some garbage and expect us to eat it all up.
But I reject that

Ambition means nothing when paired with bad execution.

Yes that's fair
I am probably also giving the DBM team more leeway, since they are fans essentially doing it for free, while I would naturally have way higher standards for the franchise proper, so there would be that too.
Still it is what it is

I need to do a Page 1 re-read of DBM someday. I don't think this is a a particularly good comic in a general sense—writing, art—but I find the ambitiousness to be really earning of some forgiveness.

I think it's a shame that the project doesn't have tge character writing and art of, say, Tonbo Seijun's Pocket Monsters: Festival of Champions, but the fact that people have dedicated this much free time to the project is pretty neat and worth an examination.

I don't even remember when or where I left this series. Is it close to the end by now, or not at all?

Despite its many flaws, I still think a compilation of all its chapters would make for a nice time.

It started as a fun "what if?" tournament with fun battles and simple yet pretty Dragon Ball art. It went downhill when Salagir started to favor story over battles. The ideas are good but execution is bad.

But I have to say it has more heart in it than modern Dragon Ball.

Yeah. Most of we've gotten, as far as animation goes, has been uninspired, retreading old ground. The movies were saved, IMO, by Toriyama's humor and execution, but now that he's gone, I have very little faith in TOEI going forward. I do still have interest in Toyotaro's manga, though, since he actually does original stuff with Dragon Ball.

DBM, though, is such a labor of passion, it's seriously impressive. Even if some narrative decisions are questionable, they've kept this free, fan-made project going for decades. Personally, I don't like gratuitous the violence is, but that's a creative decision they've stuck with, and it gives the manga a unique style. I'd do it differently, but I'm not making a manga.

U16 single handly made DBM worse than modern Dragonball too me.

TOP, Broly and SH alone are betrer to me than bastardized self insert Vegito and his OC daughter Bra.

DBM Vegitonat this point almost works as a different Goku/Vegeta fusion.
