I remember being so bothered by this an 11 year old when it first aired on Toonami. "What? Triple Strike? What's that attack like? He never tried to use it again, no fair! I wanna know what that move was!"

Of course, then I just learned it was a weird Ocean Dub mess-up in some way, shape, or form and shrugged off thinking about WHY that was used.

Does Nozawa deliver "Genki Dama" in any odd way that it could be translated as something else similar to Triple Strike?

No, and Kaio specifically says Goku's last chance is the Genki Dama in the original version of this particular scene.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about I'll explain it. When the Spirit Bomb was first mentioned in the Ocean dub on King Kai's planet, it was referred to as the Spirit Bomb like normal. For some strange reason on the episode where Goku decides to use it on Vegeta, he instead refers to it as "a triple strike", and King Kai also says "I hope you are able to control the strike". On the following episodes and throughout the rest of the dub it goes back to being the Spirit Bomb.

Does anyone have any insight as to why they randomly changed the name for one episode? Could it be that Triple Strike was the original intended dub name for the move? Is it as sign that there were earlier recordings that were later revised before broadcast?
I'm gonna make a guess and it's a bit of a stretch, but it's the only possible reason I can think of as to how this happened.

I'm guessing Saban (or someone at least involved in the censorship department) had concerns regarding the term "Spirit Bomb" maybe during the production process, and so FUNimation prepared an alternative term to appease them "The Triple Strike". But once FUNimation found out that the "Spirit Bomb" term was not a problem, they went ahead with replacing all of the "Triple Strike" sanitized lines and I'm guessing they missed the ones here in Episode 24.

It sounds like a stretch, but considering they for whatever reason had no issue redubbing DB Movie 1 twice with different names, it's the most logical thing I can think of.

Given the context it sounds like he’s referring to Kaiokenx3 not Spirit Bomb

What a bump... We have the weird dub moments thread this could be taken to now.
